Usually banks and other 'serious' websites insist on IE.Some website don't work or don't do well with ei. Keep it with a desktop icon just incase you come across some of those web sites and need to use ie.
Peace
Gotcha. Tried that. Disconnected from the net. Reconnected and presto....IE is gone from the left side of the Start menu where it used to be....but IE launched anyway.windows components wizard is not the option its title of the window (written on the blue bar on top of the window). Ill go through steps again (this applies to Windows XP):
nestoj
- Open Control Panel
- Double-click on Add/Remove Programs icon
- Window titled Add or Remove programs opens
- This window has two parts: larger part is main list which contains programs installed on your computer, smaller part are four buttons (3 similar pictures of small computers and one picture of four-colored circle ) that are vertically positioned in the left part of this window
- Button you need is third from the top and contains text Add/Remove Windows Components click that button once
- After youve clicked that button, new window will open and he will be TITLED Windows Components Wizard there is no option with this name, its a window title
- In this window you will see a list with checkboxes in front of each item
- Scroll the list if you need to find an item named Internet Explorer
- Click on the checkbox in front Internet Explorer item to remove checkmark
- Click on the Next button that is in lower part of this window.
- Removing process will begin
- When its done you will have an option to click Finish button do that
- Process of removing is complete
God helps
Here ya go, 6 answers at codeguru already:
Answer 1: Go to Tools Menu, Select Options. Under Main tab, check the bottom corner. You will see a Check Now button. Click on that button and select Yes. That should make FireFox your default Browser.
Yeah, I'm starting to get that impression...Answer 2: As Shuja has pointed out, you can set Firefox to your default browser. No matter what, you can't delete Internet Explorer. It is built into Windows since Windows 95. Explorer.exe is the same thing as Internet Explorer.exe with a few minor variations.
Answer 3: As a matter of fact, as pointed out in the post above this. Explorer.exe does work as Internet Explorer too. Just open the Explorer and in the address bar type www.google.com and you will see that the explorer turns into an internet explorer.
File extension for what??Answer 4:It depends on the file extension. I have a few sites that open IE windows, even though I've used Fx as the default for a few years.
Great......Now what???Answer 5:Hey David. I did notice that behavior few times and was surprised to see that the sites open in IE rather than FF.
Bothers ME!!Answer 6:Might be .htm extensions. Doesn't really bother me.
Mine doesn't. Cause mine's cool. (And yours isn't.)Usually banks and other 'serious' websites insist on IE.

For those who were enquiring, I connect to the internet by clicking on the "connect" button on my dial-up....thingie....(Hey - No one has ever accused me of being technologically astute, ok?)
It dials up, and connects to the internet and then IE pops up with my home page....
???
Greg
*King searches Google diligently for "epic lease"......google is your friend.![]()
"dial up thingie" sigh!
Two questions.:
1. What version of WIndows are you using (assuming it is Windows)?
2. Is this dial up "thingie" an icon on your desk top?
If it is an icon (and you are running WIndows) can click the right mouse button while pointing to the icon and select properties from the popup menu and tell us what it says under properties. I'm just wondering if your thingie is actually a shortcut which starts IE.

The thingie says "Power Connect Internet Dialer". It's the icon I got with the dial-up service I have.
What specifically under properties are you looking for?
Greg
Add to my previous post:
I’m not aware of any way, trough system settings, to automatically start IE when you establish dial-up connection. You can set automatic dialing when you start IE, but not the other way around. Only way to do what you describe is by using some residential program that would constantly monitor state of your connection, and, once it detects your connection is established, call “IExplore.exe” with parameters that would direct him to certain address.
This is common for certain malware applications, and, from what I’ve herd, some e-banking and ISP software (if the page of your bank is being automatically opened then you know it’s you banking software doing this, if it’s your ISP page then they are responsible, if it’s something else then we hit it in the head).
Range of actions that you can take is drastically influenced by whether problem is coming from malware or from e-banking/ISP software.
If it’s first case then you can perform actions from my previous post as a temporary solution while you find some good Anti Vir/Spyware/Trojan tools.
If it’s a second case, you can weep until, by some miracle, your bank/ISP changes it’s software for something that doesn’t behave this way.
Tell me which case works for you.![]()
