Anybody know how to make Firefox your permanent and only web browser? The typical "delete" route doesn't seem to be an option in my case when it comes to getting rid of Explorer. I'm lost...

Seriously though, I've never tried to get rid of IE. I just only ever use Firefox. I keep my mouse well away from any IE icons Although if you go onto the "tools" menu and click on 'options' on the general tab has an option for Firefox to check if it is the default browser. I've checked that box, so maybe it helps....

If you're still stuck, ask TheListener. A while back he posted a link to a download for pimping your Firefox browser, Christian style. Which reminds me...

I use Firefox, and i still have IE on my computer. I don't seem to have many problems... I'll ask my fiance, he is a professional nerd (software engineer!!!)

You need to have IE on your computer if you use Outlook Express as your email client as it uses the same connection settings.

It's annoying to have to x-out of IE every time and switch over to Firefox.

have you tried to remove IE from windows components?

If "No" go to ->

start->control panel->add/remove programs->on the left end of window you'll have several large buttons->click on Add/Remove Windows Components->Windows Components Wizard window will open->remove checkmark from checkbox infront of the Internet Explorer list item->click Next->couple next-next-yes-yes-ok-ok-finish and it's gone

p.s. I'm not responsible for any side-efects from this action, if Firefox stops working repeat the procedure and this time put back checkmark in front of the IE list item.

There is no "windows components wizard" option. The only option anywhere close to that is "windows installer".

Sounds like something in the way you connect is triggering IE.

So how do you connect to the Internet?

Is this when you start up the computer (so could be in startup folder)?

1) which version of windows you use.
2) how (as accurately as you can) you connect to the internet

I think I have an idea as to what's going on, but I need more info.

“windows components wizard” is not the option – it’s title of the window (written on the blue bar on top of the window). Ill go through steps again (this applies to Windows XP):

• Open “Control Panel”
• Double-click on “Add/Remove Programs” icon
• Window titled “Add or Remove programs” opens
• This window has two parts: larger part is main list which contains programs installed on your computer, smaller part are four buttons (3 similar pictures of small computers and one picture of four-colored circle ) that are vertically positioned in the left part of this window
• Button you need is third from the top and contains text “Add/Remove Windows Components” – click that button once
• After you’ve clicked that button, new window will open and he will be TITLED “Windows Components Wizard” – there is no option with this name, it’s a window title
• In this window you will see a list with checkboxes in front of each item
• Scroll the list if you need to find an item named “Internet Explorer”
• Click on the checkbox in front “Internet Explorer” item to remove checkmark
• Click on the “Next” button that is in lower part of this window.
• Removing process will begin
• When its done you will have an option to click “Finish” button – do that
• Process of removing is complete

Here ya go, 6 answers at codeguru already:

Answer 1: Go to Tools Menu, Select Options. Under Main tab, check the bottom corner. You will see a Check Now button. Click on that button and select Yes. That should make FireFox your default Browser.

Answer 2: As Shuja has pointed out, you can set Firefox to your default browser. No matter what, you can't delete Internet Explorer. It is built into Windows since Windows 95. Explorer.exe is the same thing as Internet Explorer.exe with a few minor variations.

Answer 3: As a matter of fact, as pointed out in the post above this. Explorer.exe does work as Internet Explorer too. Just open the Explorer and in the address bar type www.google.com and you will see that the explorer turns into an internet explorer.

Answer 4:It depends on the file extension. I have a few sites that open IE windows, even though I've used Fx as the default for a few years.

Answer 5:Hey David. I did notice that behavior few times and was surprised to see that the sites open in IE rather than FF.

Answer 6:Might be .htm extensions. Doesn't really bother me.
