Hope everyone is aware what this is really all about:

A tax increase. A tax hidden from workers and consumers by building it into the cost of everything via a "carbon" tax. Politicians like it as they can say they didn't raise taxes. Some scientists like it because they get funding for promoting global warming. Many Arbs, speculators and other Wall Street types like it as carbon credits are another commodity to play with. Socialists like it because it takes money from the individual and gives it to the bureaucrats (they would prefer a VAT tax but that will never fly in America). Many other countries like it because it will make America less competitive.

Clinton floated a "carbon" tax when he was first elected and got slapped down hard. All the rhetoric by Al Gore, the cartoons, the children's books on global warming, the pretense that projections going out decades are "science", are to soften up the people for a tax increase. See....you gotta let them do this cause if you don't...global warming is going to end life as we know it!. Yes it is!

You talk about a tax increase as if it was the Spanish Inquisition. You lie awake at night thinking about tax conspiracies? global warming is much scarier than a tax increase.

I would call it payment for services rendered.

Why do hate property rights and the free market? Or do you just believe that the government has no property rights and should not be allowed trade in a free market?

How about we sell off the rights to private interests would that be better?

How can an alarmist organization such as the National Weather Association predict what will happen in 50-100 years when it can't even correctly predict what will happen 5-10 days from now?

Maybe they have a strange attraction to try and find patterns in chaos.

Anyways, do you know Hilbert?

Here folks, we have the debate in a nutshell:

Fig2-CO2-Temp-SM.jpg

There is no significant lag between CO2 and temperature. This is something that all the skeptics who claim that the earth has gone through natural climate cycles therefore this is a natural climate cycle should be aware of. The current warming is not at all analogous to previous climatic events.

On the one side we have data, on the other we have rhetoric. I don't know about you guy, but I'm going to have to go with the real numbers, not pontificating and polemics.

Nothing is 'proven' in science, that is reserved for mathematicians.

I have two versions a a respone to the use of proof in discussions:

short: Proof is only for math, logic and liquor.

long: Proof is used only in logic, math, the alcohol content of booze and colloquially in the courtroom.

Have you heard of Palau, a country in the Indian Ocean? Their islands are only a few feet above sea level. For them global warming means the likely disappearance of their entire country.

Has anyone thought about the moral implications of global warming? It's rich countries versus poor countries, or the poor of the earth. In the US, if it's hot in the summer, we turn up the air conditoner, or the thermostat automatically maintains our comfort. More coal or oil is burned in the process. Same thing when we're in the car, if it's hot we run the air conditioner, consuming more oil. So the outside temperature doesn't much matter that much to us.

Yet there are at least a billion or two people in the world who don't have air conditioning. If the world's temperature goes up so that we can sit in air conditioning, the poor of the world will endure it. They will work in the fields under withering heat, and they will endure it or die trying.

A tax increase? Funny, the same people that don't mind going into debt (more taxes) like mad over terrorism, which by the numbers is a very small threat, complain about taxes and use chicken little comparisons to global warming. JoshuaW is right on the mark, you deny global warming because it's a liberal cause. Once again, the liberals will have to fight tooth and nail to save you and the planet.
