• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I can't kwno either though that is why I feel agnostic and i also sometimes dont care. Kodadog how can u believe when u doubt? Gracealone I understand what you are saying about treating the doubt God exists as OCD but what if I croak tommorow or on the date predicted for doomsday and this wasn't caused by OCD. I have a little over nine months to believe again because if it OCD doubt i am going to hell.

Raven1, please give no thought to this whole 2012 Doomsday thing. The Bible clearly states in Matthew 24:36 and Mark 13:32, " But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father". Even Jesus doesn't know the time, only God Himself.

Raven doubt is different than nonbelief. when we look at it rationally no Book in history has the historicity of the bible. If we doubt the historicity of the bible then we doubt alexander the great, we doubt ceasar, heck we doubt history itself. This is how you will know these are ocd thoughts. Most people can reasonably accept this kind of evidence as very strong evidence. People like us with ocd want complete 100% proof and we cant have that for anything.

Raven, God will not hold this against you. That is not who he is, its not his nature and its not in the way he loves us.

It is funny. I had several pastors say doubt equals hell and one said faith and doubt always co exist. Um no before I had no doubt.

Raven, the pastor who tells you doubt = hell has a very naive view of Gods nature, and even the great theologians themselves had doubts . Again , look at the parable when Jesus talks about faith the size of a mustard seed making a mountain move. Jesus didnt talk about the faith of a mountain, He specifically named the mustard seed because it was among the smallest of the seeds. You are planting that mustard seed right now when you hold on.

Meditate on that parable

By that logic atheists and agnostics have OCD. They have that evidence too. The bad thing is that God not existing is a big possibility to me, ever one else on here believes deep down or for the majority. I want to follow him in case he is there. Are you still doubting. What percent do u doubt?

I negate all apologetics though. I think how can good make something from nothing. The bible could be made up ect. I know it doesnt equal hell if my doubts are caused by ocd what I cant know is if they are. I cant believe like agnostics they doubt because they dont know just like me. You believe your doubt comes from ocd so you are ok if thst is true.True doubt is double mindedness God doesnt like it.

When they say God makes somethingfrom nothing we mean nothing physically or materially. Its not the same as non being. Everything comes from the WORD. In the beginning the words was with God and the word is GOD. Information is non physical. God thought then spoke the universe into existence.

About Doubt Raven, remember that you have had issues with Ocd when it came to the other thoughts, this is a big key here to focus on. I want you to rely now only on Gods mercy and remember how big Gods heart is.

Hi Worried One,
It's true, everything you said is logical and does make sense but you have to understand that you can't outlogic OCD. There's a broken fire alarm going off in your head that's making you feel that there is an emergency. That alarm system needs something to be alarmed about so that's how OCD latches on to different things. It needs something to chew on. I noticed that you said in spite of the fact that it all makes "sense" that you still "have" to talk to someone about everything." When you used the word "have" you were showing how OCD makes us feel compelled to still seek reassurance even though we have all this insight and knowledge. That's because the broken fire alarm pushes us to do so. So we seek reassurance. Seeking reassurance is the compulsion of our OCD. Then when we do that we validate the fear. We make it even more important and our brain becomes super sensitized to the theme of our OCD. Then what happens is that because people feel love and compassion for us and want to make us feel better they reassure us, like your wonderful Father does for you. He does this because he loves you. What he may not understand is that when he does that he's cooperating with your OCD and he's making your questions seem more and more valid, more and more worth paying attention to. This process gets them even more imbedded in your brain.
My husband understand how my OCD works so if he detects that I'm obsessing about something he refuses to reassure me about it. If he really wants to help me with it he does the polar opposite. For instance, if I said to him... "I'm really worried because I had this thought that God wasn't real and so now I'm not sure I'm a Christian" he might respond to me in this way; "Wow! Really? Yep I'd say you're doomed for sure!" He does this in kind of a light hearted mocking way and in doing so he's treating my obsession as invalid and not worthy of attention. That is what helps me and I thank the Lord that he knows this. If he starts to reassure me about it, I might get a temporary feeling of relief but it is short lived and I'll just keep on asking him for reassurance and thereby feed the monster of my OCD.
My little grandson has OCD. He's six years old. He gets stuck on different themes from time to time. Right now his mom is pregnant for his baby sister due in April. He obsesses about the baby and mostly about the delivery and her being in the hospital. He asks lots and lots of questions about it. He was going on and on about the scary hospital the other day and finally told my daughter that he wasn't going to visit his baby sister in the hospital when she was born. Now the instinctive thing for a parent to do in this matter would be to reassure him that everything would be OK if he came to the hospital and give him all sorts of reasons why. But my daughter knows better than to reassure him, so this is what she told him; "Yeah, you're right you probably shouldn't come to the hospital because they have nurses with shots hiding around every single corner just waiting for little boys to wander down the hall so they can jump out and give them shots." He looks at her for just one moment and then smiles and says... "you're just teasing me aren't you!" Then he drops the subject and goes back to playing. Just wanted to give a practical example of how to treat these obsessions effectively.
Praying for you.
Mitzi

Not really, because most atheists and agnostics never had a problem with ocd related thoughts and they dont even think twice about God one way or the other. If you were truely an agnostic or atheist this wouldnt bother you at all, then the ocd would find something else to latch on to that was important to you. Get it Sis?

Hey Christian Catholic,
I've been following some of your posts and all I can say is "wow!" you have really made huge strides in understanding and managing your OCD. You bless my heart and I love how compassionate and helpful you have been to others who are suffering with OCD.
Thank you for your kind words, but trust me, if anything I say is helpful to anyone it's only by God's grace that it is. It's such a priviledge to "bear one anothers burdens and so fulfill the law of Christ."
Thank you soooo much for praying for my little grandson. That is precious to me!
Love you kiddo!

Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.” (NIV)
This is a really good verse about doubt it says to basically trust in the Lord through your doubt for you.

It's like I said in this verse Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.” (NIV) I'll break it down, it says to trust in God's promises all of them that he's the way the truth and the life trust he'll save you don't put any stock in your doubts about God or anything like that, this is your own understanding and it doesn't matter if it's OCD or not. Acknowledge him praise him and he will guide you. "whether you know it or not."

If I start pondering, and doubting God, and so, it becomes obsessing, and it slowly destroys my faith. So I don't do that anymore, it makes me not feel well, too.

I have OCD too. I thought of some things to share, to strenghten your faith:

But, did you know YHWH is written on our DNA? ::: http://www.amazon.com/God-Code-Secr...=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1267820031&sr=8-1 http://jacksonsnyder.com/Arc/2006/dna.htm http://www.keysofenoch.org/html/dna_divine_names.html

Did you know nuclear bombs are prophesied in the bible, in detail? ::: [youtube]lRCh54zN7hc[/youtube]

Did you know something called Laminin holds all cells together, and is shaped like a cross? ::: http://www.lifescapemag.com/the-cross-in-our-bodies-laminin/

Read/listen to testimonies, it will strenghten your faith. Also read the bible:

Romans 10:17
(Amplified Bible)
So faith comes by hearing [what is told], and what is heard comes by the preaching [of the message that came from the lips] of Christ (the Messiah Himself).
Romans 10:16-18 (in Context)

The parable of the sower (about faith):

Matthew 13:17-32
(Amplified Bible)
17 Truly I tell you, many prophets and righteous men [men who were upright and in right standing with God] yearned to see what you see, and did not see it, and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it.

18 Listen then to the [meaning of the] parable of the sower:

19 While anyone is hearing the Word of the kingdom and does not grasp and comprehend it, the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart. This is what was sown along the roadside.

20 As for what was sown on thin (rocky) soil, this is he who hears the Word and at once welcomes and accepts it with joy;

21 Yet it has no real root in him, but is temporary (inconstant, lasts but a little while); and when affliction or trouble or persecution comes on account of the Word, at once he is caused to stumble [he is repelled and begins to distrust and desert Him Whom he ought to trust and obey] and he falls away.

22 As for what was sown among thorns, this is he who hears the Word, but the cares of the world and the pleasure and delight and glamour and deceitfulness of riches choke and suffocate the Word, and it yields no fruit.

23 As for what was sown on good soil, this is he who hears the Word and grasps and comprehends it; he indeed bears fruit and yields in one case a hundred times as much as was sown, in another sixty times as much, and in another thirty.

24 Another parable He set forth before them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field.

25 But while he was sleeping, his enemy came and sowed also darnel (weeds resembling wheat) among the wheat, and went on his way.

26 So when the plants sprouted and formed grain, the darnel (weeds) appeared also.

27 And the servants of the owner came to him and said, Sir, did you not sow good seed in your field? Then how does it have darnel shoots in it?

28 He replied to them, An enemy has done this. The servants said to him, Then do you want us to go and weed them out?

29 But he said, No, lest in gathering the wild wheat (weeds resembling wheat), you root up the [true] wheat along with it.

30 Let them grow together until the harvest; and at harvest time I will say to the reapers, Gather the darnel first and bind it in bundles to be burned, but gather the wheat into my granary.

31 Another story by way of comparison He set forth before them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is like a grain of mustard seed, which a man took and sowed in his field.

32 Of all the seeds it is the smallest, but when it has grown it is the largest of the garden herbs and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and find shelter in its branches.

Now watch this video, that will strenghten your faith. Fishes shining in all the colours of the rainbow, and shrimps moving forward like lightning. One can't deny a creator to all that :)

I still doubt the Creator. He could come down and smack me and I would still doubt. If God doesnt exist nneither does heaven and there is point to life how can I just trust when these are hardcore scary issues. How can I just say ok I will believe in heaven. I will trust and have no anxiety and doubt. I can deter the doubts and cling to Jesus. I see you must believe in the bible. All these people telling me to believe and I did.

You can't just trust have no anixity or doubt . Just because you doubt doesn't mean you don't believe all you need to do is tell God I don't know you're real but I'm gonna depend on you anyways none of us have perfect faith or can prove hes real you just depend on him regardless.

But it is all a lie then. You cant depend on him if you cant know he is there. I dont depend on my friend anymore cause i dont even know if she is still among the living. Has anyone ever heard of Pascals wager. This just seems like Pascals wager.

My problem is I can't trust I guess, I guess maybe my fear has gotten in the way of my trust.

Some you used to doubt weren't you scared there may not a heaven, a God, a reason for life. How did you get the point where you no longer doubted. Was it a piece of evidence you got? Do you still doubt but stifle it? ( which is just denying you are in the midst of Pascals wager) Is psychology right in we just want God to exist. Is it he only chooses some for heaven? Is this the right religion? See what I am saying is why would God take me to heaven if it is there just because I think he is my safest bet. Why would I trust someone is going to take my soul to a wonderful place and I wasn't just going to be in oblivion which is awful if I can't beliEve without doubt and trust. How did you get from that place to believe again? How do I know my efforts aren't futile and I am going to hell because I was not choosen for heaven. How do I know I am not in my way of believing and OCD about doubting God doesn't exist, doesn't exist. How do I know God is not wrathful? How do I know corn is really yellow and ice cream is cold.

Ok you gotta try to calm down you're getting wayyyyyy too worried mostly because you're over thinking. First I dunno what this Pascals Wager thing is believing to avoid Hell either way it doesn't matter what matters is you believe. Second yes I doubt occasionally but I distract myself when your busy or having OCD seems to calm down and doubting is ok everyone has them God's grace is sufficient for all if it's sufficient for murderers, rapists, and thiefs I'm sure it can cover your doubt easy. No it was not a piece of evidence i found my medicine kicked in and I'm sure God did something to help with my doubt too. Don't take everything Psychology or Science has to say as fact for example Scientists dont know if we really came from Monkeys it's a theory not a fact. God doesnt really choose who is saved and isn't he knows who will ultimately be saved and won't but we're the ones who decide our fate. And yes you are in the right religion as I pointed out Atheism,Agnosticism both aren't true. Jews are waiting for a Messiah that's already been here it's obvious Jesus is God he healed Leppers raised people from the dead and healed a paralyzed man. Belief is belief whether or not you're believing just to be saved or because you want to. It's obvious you want to and do believe you try to make yourself sound sellfish with this I'm believing just to be saved let me just say that's far better in my eyes and I can almost guarantee you God's eyes than not believing at all. The Bible says God is slow to anger and if he was wrathfully we would all be in Hell he wouldn't have sent Jesus here to save us. Don't worry about your doubt doubt is doubt OCD or not it DOES NOT matter.

Oh and furthermore The Big Bang Theory, Atheists main argument is impossible and heres why two rocks collided to form the Earth supposedly. Well if two things colliding creates something how can two cars have a headon wreck and not create something new it has the principles of The Big Bang Theory but it doesn't work because it's false.

But I don't believe nor disbelieve. What would me BELIEVING in the midst of doubt look like? Pascals wager is choosen to believe in God in case he is there? Why describes me to a t. I am getting a headache. I am reading it takes more faith to be an athiest as we speak and I know I will just doubt it.
