I teach music history in the evenings at a university, stay at home with my 7-month old son during the day, and I'm writing my dissertation. So I guess I'm a teacher, a student, and a stay-at-home mom

I remember many years ago, watching the Frugal Gourmet (a US cooking show staring Jeff Smith) document his adventures in Greece. He mentioned that if you were ever in Delphi to visit Nick's Cafe and what a wonderul time he had. I thought, yeah, right, next time I am in Delphi . Having forgotten that, many years later I was walking down the streets of Delphi (on a cruise/tour) and who should I stumble upon ... Nick We had a wonderful time

True, but he had a signed copy of Jeff's book in the window of his nick nack shop attached to his cafe'.

Turns out that he lived in the States for awhile (either Chicago or New York, I forgot which) and owned a Roach Coach (slang for a mobile grill) to make a living. He later moved back home when his mother got a bit older.

Hopefully in the future I'll do more ecclesiastic embroidery (aka silk and gold embroidery for church stuff).

I'm a software engineer specializing in embedded system programming and system design.

I'm a software/database developer. Historically, I mostly specialised in database design and development (never been a production DBA) along with C++ (mainly on the DB interface side) but I work for a company producing VoIP and other similar software and so I've branched out a lot. Still mostly C++/C#, but with some web development thrown.

No, it is not surprising.

Here in Los Angeles, there is a guy who owns a auto repair shop. He has a Ph.D. in engineering and enjoys tinkering with automobiles. He is rather shy and has asperger's disease, but is highly intelligent and enjoys a good discussion.

Sadly people talk to him as if he doesn't even have a high school diploma. They are really shocked to discover that he has earned a graduate degree.

He is just afraid of speaking before a classroom.

There is another guy who works at a community college as a computer lab assistant. He likewise has a Ph.D. degree in computer science and could double his salary if he would only teach and write books. Again, he is scared of public speaking, but he does fine one-on-one with students. I think he stammers.

I work in a investment bank.
My job is to supervise the implementation of new credit risk regulations in the big corporates department.

When I don't do that I (slowly) study Theology and give time to a charity that helps children of broken families.

I run my own business providing court ordered Sexual Offender Treatment for men and women on probation and living in the community. It is not funded by state or federal funds including medicaid, etc. therefore I can and do offer a "spiritual" aspect for members interested in growing in their Christian faith while working through the program. I designed the treatment program myself and often spend long bursts of time writing or rewriting the workbook the members use.
