No. The Lake of Fire is an Actual Place. No one is there now. It is in Hell. The first ones to be cast in there is the False Prophet and The Anti-Christ. It is not a metaphor of any kind on earth.
According to Jesus in Luke 16, there is

KJV) Luke 16:23 And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.
24 And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.

http://www.herealittletherealittle.net/index.cfm?page_name=Lazarus

Yielding himself to his destiny, the rich man asks one more thing of his forefather Abraham. He pleads with him to send someone to warn his brothers, so that they may escape "this place of torment" (basanou), the testing and punishment that he was undergoing.

While the significance of this seemingly pointless detail has been neglected by scholars throughout the centuries, you can be certain that it did not escape the notice of the Pharisees and scribes to which Yeshua was speaking.
They thoroughly knew their history and were extremely proud of their heritage. Yeshua wanted those self-righteous Pharisees to know exactly who he was referring to with this parable.

This detail cements the identity of the rich man as the House of Judah, the Jews!

OK, I "bit" ... er, voted :)

As the Holy Scripture 'reads' on many levels (there is hidden in the physical the spiritual, and the spiritual is expressed in the physical, for ex.) I do think that is possible.

This I would like to contemplate more ...
Thank you Thekla.
So would I :)

yep. and isn't the lake of fire supposed to burn forever?

Rev. 20:10 And the devil, who deceived them, was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where also the beast and the false prophet were; and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.

If the entire city of Jerusalem was burnt down, it is not still burning.
That is true. Perhaps it is a smoke that cannot literally be seen today?

http://www.christianforums.com/t7733498/#post62708170

The Destruction of Jerusalem - George Peter Holford, 1805AD

While Jerusalem was a prey to these ferocious and devouring factions, every part of Judea was scourged and laid waste by bands of robbers and murderers, who plundered the towns; and, in case of resistance, slew the inhabitants, not sparing either women or children.......................

The day on which Titus encompassed Jerusalem, was the feast of the Passover ; and it is deserving of the very particular attention of the reader, that this was the anniversary of that memorable period in which the Jews crucified their Messiah..................

The old and the young, the common people and the priests, those who surrendered and those who resisted, were equally involved in this horrible and indiscriminate carnage.

Meanwhile the Temple continued burning, until at length, vast as was its size, the flames completely enveloped the, whole building ; which, from the extent of the conflagration, impressed the distant spectator with an idea that the whole city was now on fire......
Rev 18:9
and weep over her, and smite themselves for her, shall the kings of the earth, who with her did commit whoredom and did revel, when they may see the smoke of Her burning,

18 and were crying, seeing the smoke of Her burning, saying, What [city is] like to the great City?

i can't vote because i still don't understand your question.
so are you saying that you think that the city of Jerusalem in old testament times was the lake of fire?
did the whole city burn down at some point?
It was both burned and turned to rubble as prophecied in the Bible.

What is interesting is what happened when Rome tried to rebuild the Temple:

Matthew 24: Christ’s Precise Prophecy of the Destruction of Jerusalem | Father of Mercy

Since the destruction of the temple, it has never been rebuilt for nearly 2,000 years. In 363 AD, an attempt was made to rebuild the temple by the Roman emperor Julian.
Ammianus Marcellinus recorded that while the workers began construction “horrible balls of fire, breaking out near the foundation with frequent and reiterated attacks, rendered the place, from time to time, inaccessible to the scorched and blasted workmen”...........

Julian abandoned the entire undertaking, and to this day a Muslim Mosque is situated on the temple mount, preventing it from ever being rebuilt. Thus ended the sacrificial, ceremonial system of Judaism, which had been fulfilled in Christ and no longer needed for the atonement of sins.

I voted none of the above because the first answer had the word possible in it.

Scripture only means something to us in a form where we can relate to it as something happening in us. Until our eyes are opened to see, we merely hear with the hearing of the ear (a good reference is Israel and their earrings the golden calf was made out of).

The Inuit have some 50 words for the word snow, one not being enough to describe to them what snow is to them. In the light of this, how many words does it take to describe the one word that God is ...

With that somewhat said ...

They are the same woman, which equates to our soul, which the natural picture speaks to in reference to all who have and ever will live.

Though (all of) this may seem off the beaten path, most Christians when they hear the phrase fig tree automatically think of the word Israel, which is every bit true, but this is just one view from one vantage point of what this word means in the language of God. To define this word one must find every place this is said and how it relates to the one purpose of God as something happening in us, and by which we are all being brought to by these words.

The two cities cannot be separated from the two paths that are first seen in the first garden, which paths relate to the woman (Adam named) who gives birth to the promise.

It is the seed that defines the perception of the city. The first one has a testimony as the second one does that relate to the truth laid out in the first garden. (which multiplies from there in the form of souls whose perceptions are likened to the kingdoms they live in).

The book of Revelation (as the whole Bible), is every bit about two woman as it is two sons which relate to the process of the (books Revelation 20:12) book being opened in us.

Couldn't those 2 women be symbolizing OC and NC Jerusalem?

Afterall, the great City in Revelation is shown as a "Woman", correct?

Those two cites/towers/mountains/land/earth are pictures of the same soul in either the state of saving it, or losing it, and relate to the individual as much as it does to the collective of this truth, which relate to the perception of self as the son we are. The deceived soul (Eve (not the woman) is the mother of all living and equates to Hagar as it does to Babylon, which becomes a confusion of face, hence the first heaven and earth (or the perception there of/as an Ishmael) fleeing from the face of him who sits on the throne (as a place granted to sit in which relates to the feast of Tabernacles as being in us that God rests, which is not as measured as the harlot makes it into).

I would like to ask ot others here if it is possible, and even scriptural, that whatever City is being symbolized here, if it is possible it could also symbolize the "lake of fire"? Thoughts?
I voted option 1...1st century Jerusalem

I just started a thread on the Sanctuary and Court in Revel 11 for those interested.

What about Revelation 11:1-2 SANCTUARY, COURT AND HOLY CITY

Revelation 11:
1 And was given to me a reed like-as rod saying "rouse! and measure! the Sanctuary<3485> of God and the Altar[Golden Altar] and those worshiping in it
2 and the Court/fold<833>[Priests/Lavar/Altar of Sacrifice] outside of the Sanctuary, be casting-out!<1544> out-side<1854> and no it thou should be measuring,
that it was given to the Gentiles/Nations.
And the holy City they shall be treading<3961>forty two months.
