  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The protestant church is down the hall if that is your desire.
really, is that called for? We need to stick together, now more then ever, and attacking one another will get us no where, I asked what she ment by her statement and I am sure when she logs back on she will explain what she ment more clearly

It was entirely necessary. The Church has had bedrock moral principles for millennia. "Changing the message" simply because Obama won is ridiculous. When the church tries to "adapt" to contemporary conditions it ends of groaning under the weight of history (Vatican II ring a bell?).

People want to play Catholic - not be Catholic - it seems. Whatever.

Well thank God there's people like you willing to tirelessly and lovingly guide those lost sheep back into the fold....how could any wandering sheep resist the loving embrace of the Church when getting whacked over the [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse] with a crook???

Oh- I keep forgetting it's "love" to be an angry, peeved Christian. Silly me.

This is a joke right?
Not so much.
Why?
Well right now there is a court case to determine if Obama was even born in America.
He is currently hiding his records and the DNC filed a motion to dismiss and then to conceal.

IMHO - if he had nothing to hide, there wouldnt be a motion to conceal.
Furthermore, it is of the utmost importance that this man's past and birth be absolutely exposed.

In the constitution - a man cannot run nor be someone born outside the US, nor may he have dual citizenship.

And Obama - who taught Constitution Law - should know that he cannot do those things.

SO - why is he concealing this information??

Brining us a reason and cause to wonder.
The office is a public office and should mean there is no secrecy as to the nominee's past and citizenship.

He in fact was titled Muslim - and his father and step father were Islamic.
His schooling was islamic.

THIS country needs to take off its blinders - not look at the color of the skin at all - and look absolutely at the issues at hand.

And when God gave us the 10 Commandments - He didnt call them the 10 choices.

'Thou Shalt not kill' is on the top 10...
Obama says - thou shalt kill if it is inconvenient.

So - will God bless America?

Did God bless the inhabitants of Noah's time?
According to the Hebrew scholars the translation 'GIANTS' is erroneous - and the actual translation is aborted babies.

So - telling us not to worry and put it in God's hands without learning from history of what God will do - is sincerely scary.

More babies will die because ppl think political correctness far outweighs anything else.

And the economy...?

You are about to see a rapid fall in that area.
I despair for the African American babies who are in utero right now and are currently the most vulnerable lambs in the abortion slaughter. In America, every other black baby that is conceived is murdered by abortion.

There have been 15 million black babies killed by abortion in America since 1973. Blacks would still be the biggest minority in the USA if so many hadn't been killed by this policy.

www.blackgenocide.org

On the other finger (I won't give it a full hand), I understand the implications that electing Obama president will have on the psyche of the nation and even the world. I am glad that people will understand finally that anything IS possible in America.
Amen.
They suffer the most and always have... in the percentage ratio.
I would have liked to have seen them live and do good things for this world.
Now their president will destroy their future since they arent much more than a punishment for women.
Don't blame me for what he is about to do, I voted pro life. God help us !

It's beautiful! Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would see this country move past its 200+ years of treating African American's as second class citizens to see this amazing day....an in my lifetime. Truly amazing.

Even though I am happy for the black ppl because i do recognize what this means to them... this is what this election was based on, race.

It was not based on his character or any of his polices or the lack there of. The ppl disagree with his values and morals but they still voted for him just to elect a black man and i don't necessarily have a problem with that but I'm just sad that this is who we get to be the firs black president.

I hope Obama does not let these ppl down and has them realize that they need to get out of their own way and forgive all the hurt and injustices of the past and move on and stop letting their party make them victims of something this election has shown is a thing of the past. Becuase that is what the real injustice is, what the party did to them since the civil rights movement.

But when he signs FOCA the babies lose and what was made clear to me is no one cares for the unborn and that is our new civil rights issue.

When the hype and joy wear off, what are we going to see? What are we left with? A libral, nothing more and nothing less. It's sad for me because while many are feeling like this is a new beginning, I feel it's the beginning of the end.

the Church is in a constant state of reform, what specificly do you have in mind?

I think I made my point perfectly clear.

The USCCB Document is good. It is quintessentially American in that it lays out all the facts and trusts Catholics to make wise, educated decisions.

The "one-sentence version" of the USCCB Document espoused by 25% of American bishops (a distinct minority) was quintessentially un-American. That's one reason why it didn't reach people (and made some people it reached react negatively.)

Catholicism has spent almost its entire history ministering primarily to illiterate peasants. Even now, the greatest growth of Catholicism is in Africa and Third World countries.

Archbishop Chaput and the other bishops who agreed with him treated Americans, basically, like illiterate peasants. A document was exhaustively compiled and published, giving American Catholics a great deal of food for thought, prayer, and reflection. The document took into consideration that American Catholics want to learn, study the issues, pray, reflect, and come to their own thoughtful decisions.

But somewhere along the way, a few bishops decided that authoritarianism would be a better way to go.

It backfired.

The Human Life Amendment in Colorado is going down to defeat dramatically:

The proposed amendment would have said a person was "any human being from the moment of fertilization." With 38 percent of the vote counted, the measure was losing 74-26 percent.

Since this is Archbishop Chaput's home state, does it not seem as if his approach did more harm than good?

It is hard for me to fathom a loss of that magnitude if churches had been lobbying effectively for the bill, in a way that respected voters' intelligence.

As a Democrat and Catholic I now find that I have to take our victory and divide the issues. Of course Obama will do a good job and the nation will be better for having this strong charismatic leader in office.

I now find that the goal will be not to oppose Obama due to his poor choosing of morals on abortion, but to support him on those things that have always made me admire the Democratic party. But I must also divide the issues, work against FOCA and towards weakening the foothold of Planned Parenthood.

Chapult dealt more than evenly with those Catholics who decided to support an open agenda for murder.

If we had a person running on an agenda of "Freedon of Rape" and telling MANBLA that he would be their first priority I am certain that those who were shamed for their support would not be justified and the defense of being treated as "illiterate" for such support woulod not wash.

This is murder, genocide. The sorry fact is not that people feel they were belittled, but that the Archbishop himself even had to make a ministry and statement to those who should know better.

Weird, for some reason when I click on page 6, it keeps taking me to page 4.

BA, I am really confused... I don't understand, I thought you were really paving the way for the republicans here. All those posts about how abortion is the main issue, and we ought to vote for the candidate who would uphold life issues... but now you're saying you're a democrat and you're happy Obama won? What happened? I seriously don't understand what's going on.

And as to Obama... I don't know, a big part of me is waiting for the other shoe to drop, like something is going to happen...

I have always maintained that I am a Democrat that did not vote for Kerry in the last election nor voted for Obama in this one on the issue of life. I share in my partys executive victory and with pride.

Yes, I am proud of my political partys victory and believe that Obama will make a great president and will make progress in uniting the people. I willl not support his views on abortion and will fight and pray that FOCA does not become a reality and hope that Obama ends his association with Planned Parenthood.

The simple reality is that Obama is president and it is now time to address issues on an individual basis and not the individual.

Gwendolyn;

Weird, for some reason when I click on page 6, it keeps taking me to page 4.

Its been happening in other forums and threads as well.

Anyway, I think Barrack Obama is going to be a great president. I think pro-life people will be surprised on how he comes down on the side of pro-life issues, now that he is president.

I've read his books, and learned about him, before he announced his candidacy for president. There is a greater man than what the campaign rhetoric painted him as.

I pray for his success as president. His success will be America's success.

Bafriend, for the comfort of your heart and the strength of your convictions I give you the guidance of former PA gov Bob Casey Sr from the 90's. I believe it is the heartbeat of the pro-life Democrats. I feel it mirrors your own sadness, but reflects a strength:

We must ask ourselves, "Where today does conscience call us?" What is the deepest source of the unease that's documented in survey after survey across this country. It is deep, and it's basic, and it's powerful. I believe that a great majority of people in America know the answer to that question. The silent figure at the center of our great cultural debate is the unborn child. For a generation now - over twenty years - we've lived with abortion on demand. It was sold to America, this idea, as a kind of a social cure, a resolution. Instead, it has left us wounded and divided. We were promised it would broaden the circle of freedom. Instead, it has narrowed the circle of humanity. We were told the whole matter was settled and would soon pass from our minds. Twenty years later, it tears at our souls. And so, it is for me the bitterest of ironies that abortion on demand found refuge .. found a home - and it pains me to say this - found a home in the National Democratic Party. My party, the party of the weak, the party of the powerless.

You see, to me, protecting the unborn child follows naturally from everything I know about my party and about my country. Nothing could be more foreign to the American experience than legalized abortion. It is inconsistent with our national character, with our national purpose, with all that we've done, and with everything we hope to be.

Bob Casey Sr. managed to support his Catholic ideals that were in the Democratic party while strongly opposing abortion even when the leaders of the party were and are...so aggressive promoting it.

It is that spirit that will be needed in the pro-life democrats to forge an alliance with others and oppose the FOCA. For everyone here today who is torn between the good of their parties and the bad...Bob Casey Sr. is a model of a politician and a Catholic who would not compromise on his values but fought to make a difference.

He stayed a Democrat and supported the Catholic social values in their platform but tirelessly opposed abortion until his dying day.

For any party.
Any view.
I find him an example to never give in on what we believe as Catholics, no matter what the structures of our political affiliation do.

I hope that, as a Democrat yourself (and one of the strongest pro-life supporters here), his example gives you hope.

I never thought in my lifetime that this would ever happen either. I recall in highschool while in American Government our teacher stating that we would never see an African American president in our life time. She said this country was not ready for it. Before anyone jumps to a conclusion here about this very fine teacher, she was black.

Racism is very much alive in this country. When I go for a job interview I never even think about my race. If I were black though, I know it would be a far different story. Prejudice is different than racism. You can overcome racism because it is action. Prejudice is something ingrained and we all have them and prejudices are almost always impossible to overcome.

I hope that with an African American president, that many many people, both white and black, are able to overcome barriers when it comes to race and prejudice. Obama last night in his speech basically said, "Here I am, now what do you say ?" It was a message of hope for all of us.
