You don't get to plead innocent by claiming 'Hey, it wouldn't have worked anyway'. You don't get cleared of sedition because you didn't actually overthrow the government. You don't get fined for trespassing and mischief if you have admitted plotting a seditious act.
Is this now going to be the excuse? 'Hey, weren't nothing to get all excited about. Just a few good ol' boys joshing around. Just some harmless mischief. They don't mean no harm'.
Sedition? Yes. Plotted as such. Acted as such. Arrested as such. Charged as such. Admitted as such. And will be sentenced as such.
*sarcasm*
Everyone knows if someone is armed and breaks into someone's home with the intent to rape and/or murder the homeowner, but then after you have terrorized them, told them you are going to rape and/or kill them, the police arrive outside so you fail to complete the rape or murder, the perpetrator should only be charged with trespassing and possibly mischief.
It is common sense after all. I know I would be fine if someone broke into my home with a weapon, threatened to rape/murder my spouse, terrorized them with said intent, but was for some reason unsuccessful, I would of course jump for joy if they were convicted of trespassing.
