There's enough food to go around, we just need to put a cap on what we can buy (rice, 1kg per customer, etc.) Which we ARE starting to do.

NHS staff and the elderly get a one hour allocated timeslot between (I think) 8am and 9am to shop without all of the hustle and bustle from the rest of us. Some smaller stores only allow THREE customers at any one time. (My mother is also an NHS nurse - she has food.)

Unfortunately, whenever we have a crisis here, the UK has a habit of pulling the knives out and stabbing each other in the back - this article is an example of that.

These are facts.

I try to make sure what I can buy comes with a cap already on it....especially in these times.

I have mixed feelings on this. People are encouraged not to go out of their homes as least as possible so if you get a few extra supplies so you don't need to you're made to look like a bad person? The key is to what measure people are doing it. There's a big difference between someone buying two packs of meat as compared to 10.

Hard for you to purchase fresh produce? Except for mushrooms.

I get a lot of that when I order from Walmart...and I was so looking forward to those Potato Chips

I've never been to a Walmart. I've shopped at just about every other US chain in my time, but never Walmart.

Whole Foods Market is my favourite - it's similar to Waitrose or M&S.

It's also important to note that Brits like cherry picking negativity - the press thrive on it. Sure, some crazy stuff is going down, but it's a small percentage.

Keep in mind the 500,000 who have just stepped up to help the cause. We're not complete monsters.

Treat yourself and get something with a cork next time. ;-) Lately, I've been working on a bottle of Lagavulin 8. I've got a bottle of the 16 that I like better, but I'm trying to not just blow through that and the 8 is decent once the bottle's been open for a few days.

You're not missing anything. It's middle-of-the-road as far as grocery stores go. For regular merchandise, imagine a Target that's bigger, dirtier, harshly-lit, and understaffed.

Those without money can't afford to get extra supplies, and they can't afford the higher priced items left on the shelves either. They keep returning to the shops to see what they can buy, if the cheaper items are restocked, with what little they have.

I've heard reports that mention the possibility of government paid food parcels. I can't imagine it being anything more than bulk non-perishables and UHT dairy products, but still. If it's true, fantastic.

I could live on milk and rice for years if I had to.

I'm sure every country and region is different. In my region some shelves were cleared off but there are reports now that the replenishing of shelves are staying stable with product still on shelves at the end of the day. Meaning people are now living on their stock. Hopefully this will be the case everywhere in the days ahead.
