  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I believe there is a biblical argument to be made for being "spiritual" and yet being "practical" at the same time. I don't believe the one thing necessarily excludes the other. Many of the prophetic warnings given to us in the Bible, are actually quite sensible when you think about it. Such as when we read, "Anyone who lives by the sword, dies by the sword" (Rev.13:10). There's also an example in the Old Testament that comes immediately to mind.

When Gideon raised an army to fight the Midianites, He was told by God to lead his troops to water, and observe how they drank. The soldiers who lay on their bellies and plunged their faces into the water were to be separated from those who cupped the water in their hand and raised it to their mouths, so they could watch for the enemy while they drank. God was giving Gideon a lesson in what military experts today call "situational awareness", the tactical advantage of being aware of one's surroundings at all times, (Judges 7:5). Gideon then went on with his smaller, yet more elite force to defeat the Midianites.

I am offering my knowledge of "escape and evasion" tactics and "primitive survival" skills in the same spirit.

"Escape and Evasion" "Primitive Survival"

Take this worst case scenario for example. Suppose you are ambushed by hostiles and stripped of everything. The worst thing you could do in this situation, is make a bee-line straight back to your camp to where your supplies are cached. The bandits will simply follow you and steal everything else. The only sensible course of action, is to stay away from your camp site, until you lose the pursuing bandits. For this, you will need to rely on "escape and evasion" tactics, as well as "primitive" survival skills.

First order of business in "Primitive" survival is "shelter, water and food" (in that order). Most people in the wild die of hypothermia or sun stroke, long before they die from dehydration or starvation. Learn how to construct and conceal "primitive" shelter (hut) from natural resources. In winter conditions, this may involve digging out a hollow in a snow bank and covering yourself with snow.

After your shelter is taken care of, locate a source of clean drinking water. If you can't locate a spring, creek or stream, you'll have to dig for water with a sharp stick. In America, Cotton wood trees have shallow root systems and water is generally close to the surface wherever these trees are located, especially at low points in the topography, (like ravines and depressions). Cat Tails are also a dead giveaway of the presence of subsurface water. Use your shirt to soak up the muddy water from the hole, and squeeze it out into your mouth. That will at least eliminate some of the sand, dirt and microbes from the water.

Next order of business is food. You'll have to forage. Which means searching for bird nests in low branches of trees, turning over fallen logs for grubs and termites, collecting insects and small reptiles (lizards), collecting edible plants and berries and digging for earth worms. Bears are omnivores, (meaning they eat everything). If a 400 pound black bear can sustain itself foraging for food in a given area, so can you.

Naturally, everything is going to taste absolutely horrible, but it will keep you alive. Pine trees are a valuable source of survival food. The nuts in the pine cones are edible, as well as the inner pulp of the tree under the bark, and the young pine cones themselves when boiled. Pine needles are a source of Vitamin C, and all pulp, seeds and cones provide a minimal amount of carbohydrates. Although IMO Sycamore pulp tastes better than pine.

Understand, eating tree pulp and pine cone seeds won't stave off starvation alone. For the most part, it merely adds more bulk to your diet than nutrients. During WWII, people use to add sawdust to their flour. Same principle. IMO, it just makes you feel fuller. You'll still need to forage for proteins and other more digestible carbs.

You would of course separate out some of your foraged food to use as bait for "dead fall" traps. A dead fall trap is a slab of flat rock elevated at one end a foot or so off the ground and balanced in place by short vertical sticks. Place the bait under and at the center of the rock. Animal sticks it's head in, bumps one of the sticks, rocks falls... Dinner time. You'll need to set several of these traps. Snares are also useful, but they work best with wire, which you probably won't have unless you scavenge it from some trash pile.

Primitive fire making is also a useful skill. I prefer rubbing a hard wood stick along a groove in a very dry softwood base, as opposed to the bow and drill method, (because the former doesn't require cordage to make a bow), however the bow and drill method takes less energy. Having fire isn't a necessity for short term survival, and producing a fire takes a whole lot of energy and time. Concentrate on getting food first, before creating the means to cook it. Smoke and fire are also the easiest ways to spot someone in the wild. Not a good idea, if you are being pursued. It's better to "Cold Camp" without a fire in those circumstances.

Have I survived using these primitive techniques ??? Yes, I have. For as long as three or four weeks at a time. It isn't pleasant, but it is "survivable". You will nevertheless, experience some weight loss. If you're good at foraging and trapping, probably in the neighborhood of five pounds a week. Twenty pounds of weight loss isn't going to kill you.

Eventually, if your pursuers don't lose interest and go away, you'll have to employ "Escape and Evasion" tactics to lose them. Stay concealed in full daylight, use foliage as camouflage. Travel only at night, or in low light. Remove your shoes when you walk across rocks or along fallen logs. Walk in the middle of creeks, or streams where you'll leave no tracks. Stop frequently and listen in order to hear whether you are being closely pursued, or climb a tree and surveil your back-trail from a distance. Climb down the tree, don't jump. Sound carries a long way in the wild.

Never walk through clearings, silhouette yourself along ridge lines, or use forestry roads and game trails while you are being pursued. In other words, don't make it easy for your pursuer to see you at a distance, or make it easy for him to follow you either. In fact, the more rugged and dense the terrain is, the more likely it is your pursuer will lose the trail.

In any event, you can not approach your back-up cache site, until you are absolutely certain you aren't being followed. I hope and pray no one ever has to use any of this advise to survive, but it's better to know how to do it, than to die of shame.

With the New Cold War era heating up people, (especially Christians) are becoming increasingly nervous about recent events developing in the Middle East over the last six months. Iran has a sweet Nuclear Deal that doesn't allow U.S. inspection of suspected sites, and many believe Iran will have a nuke in less than two years.
In June 2015 U.S./Russian relations take a nose dive as the Russian backed Ukrainian civil war continues and U.S. surveillance planes flying over international waters in the Black Sea are challenged by Russian fighter planes. Days later, Russian President Vladimir Putin is disinvited from attending the G7 summit in Geneva, Switzerland.

In July 2015 as large numbers of Russian ground forces move toward the border of Ukraine, Vladimir Putin threatens to use nuclear weapons against NATO if the West tries to intervene in the Russian backed Ukrainian civil war. NATO immediately responds by forward deploying a "Fast Reaction Force" of thirty thousand ground troops, artillery and main battle tanks closer to the Ukrainian border. This force is later joined by twenty F-22 advanced (nuclear capable) stealth fighter bombers, and the U.S. threatens to redeploy intermediate range nuclear missiles to Western Europe removed at the end of the last Cold War, (CNN News July, 2015).

Three months later, thousands of Russian Spetznaz (special forces) troops are on the ground in Syria, joined by Iranian Republican Guard and Hezbollah terrorists ostensibly there as our (allies?!) in the War on Terror fighting ISIS. Hundreds of advanced Russian fighter planes and (night capable) Hind Attack Helicopters, (dubbed the flying tank) join the ground troops. Off shore the Russian forces are supported by a Typhoon Class nuclear ballistic submarine, the heavy guided missile cruiser "Moskava" (also nuclear capable), as well as China's new aircraft carrier the "Liaoning Jian". Also in September, China makes a deal to supply Iran with four hundred of their advanced J-10 (F-16 equivalent) fighter aircraft, (CNN News, Sept. 2015).

On October 1, 2015 Washington and NATO accuse Russia of concentrating on attacking anti-Assad forces in Syria while ignoring ISIS. Then on October 11, Washington accuses Russia of attacking and killing U.S. advisers on the ground in Syria supporting the ant-Assad forces, (CNN NEWS, Oct.11). Does anyone seriously still believe Russia is our ally in the War on Terror ?!

In January 2016 Russia sends a fighter aircraft into Turkish airspace and the plane is shot down by Turkey, Russia expands their operations to include Iraqi territory and takes possession of a major air base 25 miles west of Baghdad. Syria now bristles with Russian surface to air missile batteries, and ECM (Electronic Counter Measure) installations have popped up on mountain tops in Southern Syria to block U.S, NATO and Israeli surveillance in the country, (Debkafiles). What is going to happen when Hezbollah terrorists in Syria start launching rockets into Israel once again ?! The supreme leader of Iran (The Iatollah) publicly calls for renewed attacks against Israel.

Russia is now in a poised to stop Israel and the U.S. from building a natural gas pipeline from its' "Leviathan" gas field in the Mediterranean to Turkey, thus breaking Russia's stranglehold of natural gas supplies to Western Europe.

By my estimation, SAC (Strategic Air Command) has gone from DEFCON 4 (Normal) to DEFCON 2 at least four times in the last six months. At DEFCON 2 America's nuclear bomber forces are flown to within 1,500 miles of Russian airspace (Fail Safe)and wait there for the attack codes to be issued by the President of the United States. Time till bomb drop is less than three hours. DEFCON 1 is Nuclear War. The missile silos are opened and they launch, along with naval forces worldwide. The Apocalypse.

In July-September 2015 another disturbing event took place called operation Jade Helm 15. Thousands of elite military troops dispersed throughout the South Western United States in nine states to remote locations far away from major cities and existing military bases, in what the U.S. government alleged were combat training exercises for future overseas deployment. (Question). Why would they be training off base in remote locations on civilian owned land, when combat training has always been traditionally carried out in the past on land reserved for military use ? (Answer). They wouldn't.

Jade Helm 15 was a "dress rehearsal" or drill for the dispersal of U.S. ground forces nationally in the event of Nuclear War. The special forces units have prepared the ground and systems necessary for the two million ground forces that will be dispersed in the event of war. All you have to do is take a look at where they dispersed to and compare that to a Nuclear Fallout map from the 1970's. The Book "Nuclear Apocalypse" is a good place to start, but it's a dreary read and it gets rather technical at times.

Homeland Security wasn't created to combat Terrorism in the USA either. Their offices are located in every major U.S. city, and their job is to act as the command agency when all civilian law enforcement and emergency services are federalized in time of war. There is no plan to evacuate U.S. cities. The civilian population will be forced to shelter in place. Most police and fire departments have already been issued radiological dose (rad/per hour) pens and meters to read the pens. If the interstates and highways are suddenly shut down, and you see cops wearing these radiation dose pens.. Well it's DEFCON 1.

You also may see naval ships leaving harbors in a mass exodus if you live in a port city. Low flying military aircraft will also be scrambling to rural civilian airports where runways have been extended in the last couple of decades to receive them. Of course all your friends in the reserved armed forces will be throwing duffel bags in their cars and driving away like a "bat outta hell". Other than that, there won't be any announcement on television or radio warning the American public of what's coming.

This thread is open for people and Christians to discuss plans for how to survive the Coming Nuclear Apocalypse. In it, I will also reveal the Scriptural proof that makes a case for at least a "limited" nuclear war during the Second Half of Tribulations (The Great Tribulation Period).

My purpose is not to spread hysteria or sanction militant anti-government ideology in this thread. If you want to talk about how to get yourself killed during the Apocalypse, please start your own thread and talk about it somewhere else. I hope what you read here will help you and other Christians to prepare for and survive what is shortly about to come upon the whole world.

"Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and stand before the Son of Man" (Luke 21:36, KJV).

Race wars, and especially religious war will happen prominently. N00ks, war, fals3 flags, and other distractions will be back drop props.

It has already been planned; race war will destabilize USA, then religious war between Judaism, Islam and Christianity will break spirits of everyone else. Even atheists and nihlists will destroy each other... And no one is to blame except the people...

Grab a bag of popcorn; n00klear war is the least exciting part of the show coming...

In the tribulation, trying to escape from God is futile. Repentance is the only way to save yourself, not survival kits and skills. Running from God was what Jonas did.

I'm not trying to escape from God, I'm trying to escape from what the beast system is going to bring upon this world and what is shortly about to come upon everyone, which is exactly what the Gospel of Christ tells us we should be doing;

"Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to ESCAPE all these things that shall come to pass" (Luke 21:36).

You do know what the word "ESCAPE" means, don't you ???

Anyway. I spent the last ten years gold prospecting in Arizona, New Mexico and the Mountains of Colorado, and contrary to what people believe, even in modern times, gold prospectors are still being bush-whacked by bandits in the lower 48 states. I was chased four times by bandits armed with pistols, and I was never caught. So I guess I learned a thing or two about "Escape and Evasion" tactics. Living so long in remote parts of the country, also taught me a lot about "primitive" survival skills. I'm just passing it along.

If you'd rather ignore what's going on in the world, and make no plans to escape what's coming, "Knock Yourself Out". Go rent some Red Box movies, watch Cable Television, or play X-Box games. Nobody is forcing anyone to read anything in this thread.

"North Korea launches another Rodong medium range ballistic missile on Friday. The missile travelled 500 miles and landed in the sea inside Japan's air defense area" (Reuters News Service, March 18, 2016).

Tae Woo Kim, a military expert at South Korea's Konyang University said Fridays launch was a test of a re-entry vehicle for the Rodong missile. Kwon Sejin professor at South Korea's Advanced Institute of Science and Technology agrees, the missile may have carried an empty warhead to see if the triggering device for a thermo-nuclear weapon could survive re-entry.

"This technology is the final step in North Korea's development of a nuclear delivery system for the Rodong missile"
(Associated Press, March 18, 2016).

The headlines tell the story. The continuing missile tests of North Korea's leader Kim Jung un, even in the face of severe U.N. sanctions, indicate he is deadly serious about his threat of launching a pre-emptive nuclear attack against his enemies.

Vladimir Putin of Russia also threatened to use nuclear weapons against NATO if they intervene in the Ukrainian civil war, or try to bring the Balkans into NATO, (July, 2015).

China's growing challenge to U.S. naval hegemony in the South China Sea and Pacific, also indicate China is prepared to go to war to further its' territorial "expansion" in the South China Sea.

Most disturbing of all, is the reemergence and rearming of Hezbollah in Syria with sophisticated Russian supplied missiles. What will the Israeli response be when Hezbollah again launches thousands of missiles (not inaccurate, short range katusha rockets like the ones used during the Second Lebanon War, but GPS guided, supersonic missiles), capable of targeting Israeli cities and ships in the port of Haifa ???

Will the Israel air force fly into Syria, and go up against Russian S-400 anti-aircraft missile batteries, Russian fighter planes, while their aircraft and surveillance is being blinded by Russian ECM jamming ?!.. Or instead, will they be forced to retaliate with some of the 300 nuclear weapons they have available ?

The world is presently poised for a Nuclear Armageddon. The Nuclear gun is loaded and cocked. The New Cold War era, is about to turn into a Third World War and a nuclear holocaust. The hope that U.S. military superiority will deter any of this from happening, is greatly exaggerated.

Remember, the Fourth Horseman of the Apocalypse (The Third World War), will be proceeded by the Third Horseman of the Apocalypse, (Global Economic Collapse). So the time to make preparations is now, not later when your bank accounts are frozen and your credit cards useless. Don't wait for the coming economic collapse, and don't wait for the first nuclear bomb to be detonated. If you do, you're going to be too late. Start preparing now. The signs and the warnings are quite clear.

Prepping is great, but you could easily die from ptomaine poisoning from canned goods, or tetanus from rusty covers. Also, if you plan to barter, what is to stop a person from taking your entire bounty by gun/weapon, despite the fact you are bartering with only [gold or silver] coins? Prepping may Band-Aid the situation, but it wont really help much. Many "predictive programming" shows like The Walking Dead, Jericho, Under the Dome, Wayward Pines, etc... are trying to TELL you what it will be like. You can have the best stock of supplies and be killed by randomness.

In survival situations, I've noticed it's usually not just one mistake that proves fatal. Fatalities generally result from a series of missteps and miscalculations. As an avid outdoorsman, primitive camper and hiker, survivalist, recreational gold prospector and owner of a 29 foot sail boat and Hurricane Katrina survivor, I've made just about every mistake you can imagine, and nearly got myself killed a dozen times. I've had amoebic dysentery from drinking bad water, eaten food from swollen tin cans and gotten sick, been robbed at gunpoint and bush-wacked by bandits, rode out a tropical storm at sea, was chased for days by a homicidal angry female mountain lion after I foolishly camped below her den in Arizona, and in Colorado, I was run off a 80 ft. cliff, by a 500 lb. brown bear that had just killed someone else a few days earlier. And guess what ?!.. I'm still here and I'm on the right side of the dirt.

You can never prepare or plan for every contingency. All you can do is try to limit the number of mistakes you make, so you don't become overwhelmed, and then leave everything else to God. Prayer certainly has sustained me in the very worst of times.

What I find gets most people killed in survival situations, is shame. The shame that comes from a lack of knowledge. Shame that comes from having done nothing to prepare. The shame that comes from being "psychologically" unable to cope. Under these circumstances, people essentially just give up, lay down and die of shame.

Is the Apocalypse going to be dangerous, no matter how well you prepare ???.. Absolutely !.. Is that any reason not to prepare for it ?! Nope... All the more reason to prepare for it the best you can.

I agree with you, though you kind of just proved my point (which I think we both agree on.) You are an expert outdoorsman, and you still almost died a dozen times - and it isn't the tribulation yet. Most people know to prep, but they don't know why or how to prep.

When the tribulation comes (what most call the "apocalypse,") there will be no leisure time. Your basement could be stocked full of goods, but you may be in the blast radius of a nuclear or neutron bomb. Or, a foreign army invades from the South or North, ransacking and pillaging entire cities. You could simply be away from home or wherever your materials are - running errands - when your home/supply depot is destroyed in an earthquake. Or, tsunami. What if a classified near earth object is to hit in an hour (without notice, of course) and the tidal wave takes out an entire time zone, including you and your home? A solar flare so massive it produces microwaves that can denature metal could happen - destroying stocks. Yellowstone, Toba, Taupo, La Grita, etc. could erupt. You could easily be displaced because of unforeseen circumstances.

I agree that not preparing is foolish, as we aren't supposed to sit on our thumbs and wait for God to do something for which we are perfectly capable. My main point is that in the real tribulation you won't have a snowball's chance in Hades of ascertaining your depot is safe, secure and protected. One example that brings this home is the exodus: the Israelites did not prep; they were literally told to sacrifice a lamb, make unleavened bread, eat it quickly, and leave. The best case scenario for the apocalypse is the cooldown period - where you only have to worry about marauders, and making supply runs. This is just my opinion.

But, the overall point still stands: you do have to trust God for everything or else you are only working on your own feeble power and intellect.

As I stated in this earlier post, I too believe there is a practical side to spirituality. Just as you stated in the previous post, spirituality is not all about praying for God to deliver you from destruction with a miracle. Gideon could have just as easily ignored God's instructions, and only prayed for a victory instead, but I think that would have been a really big mistake on his part.

There's no substitute for experience. I may have come close to dying a dozen times in the last thirty years, but believe me, I'm a lot harder to kill now, than I was then..

One of the tricks I learned, was to never put all my eggs in one basket. Even though I had a UHF and CB radio on my sailboat, as well as signal flares.. I also had a convex 28 inch mirror on board, which I could use to signal other boats and even aircraft with. I actually used the devise once to signal another boat when my radio went on the fritz, and a Coast Guard helicopter arrived within a few minutes.

I also learned when camping, never to keep all my equipment at my camp sight. I always cached (buried, or hid) a "bug-out" kit nearby, which contained rations, a weapon and survival items, just in case I was bush-whacked while at my camp site. This is sound advise, even if you're only taking your family on a camping trip to Yellowstone National Park for the weekend.

In each of the five largest national parks in the lower 48/Western United States, an average of 250 campers in each park go missing every year and are never found again. These numbers relate to mysterious, unexplained disappearances, and they do not reflect fatalities caused by accidental mechanical injuries, drowning, exposure, or attack by wild predators.

The predator suspected in these attacks and disappearances walks on two legs, not four. The National Park Service doesn't like to advertise this fact, so the ranger at the gate, isn't going to mention it as you and your family drive past. The actual statistics however are available on the internet. Think about it, if someone was a serial killer, what a wonderful hunting ground, a lightly patrolled, secluded national park system, full of unwary tourists would be ?!..

So even if you're not prepping for the Apocalypse, It might be advisable to glance through these posts anyways, and pick up a few survival tips.
