  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Now wait just a minute! This changes everything.

I almost fell off my chair yesterday when a Latina "dreamer" being interviewed said that while she considered the U.S. her country and wanted to remain here that she would emigrate if forced to do so.

What she said next stunned me. She was a graduate medical student and revealed quite confidently that many other countries would be happy to have her, among those mentioned was Canada (which is known for liberal immigration policies).

I have been led to believe by the media and "dreamer" advocates that she and others would be sent to the third world country of their parents origin to live in hopeless squalor for the rest of their lives.

Who knew that other developed countries would welcome them with open arms, giving them nearly the same opportunities that they have enjoyed in the U.S.

I think Trump should reveal this fact. Perhaps it would change the tenor of the whole debate.

What are you saying?
There are perhaps other reasons that you are not considering that make immigrating to a place you have no connection to, difficult

Here's what I envision for the dreamers.

Emigrate to a developed country and become a citizen there.
Later if they wish they can seek citizenship here.

Perhaps a new 'path to citizenship' could be fashioned for the dreamers involving the cooperation of other developed countries. I want them to have the opportunities they have worked for , but I also want immigration reform that works.

Her being a med student might have something to do with the options available to her.

Yes, education opens doors (who knew).

Actually I misspoke. She is actually working in the medical field now.

I suspect first stop for her will be Mexico. She will then have to find a way up to Canada in order to re-achieve first-world levels of her livelihood.

But in the long run Dreamers are for all intents and purposes 100% American kids who did nothing wrong (NOTHING WRONG) and they are being told they are not "of us" and need to go away after which we don't care what happens to them.

Imagine if that happened to you.

Will it "whiten her up" enough for America to accept her as a real American on the next go 'round?

Let's get real, the Dreamers aren't going anywhere.

I googled "Canada and the Dreamers". This young lady knew what she was talking about. Perhaps the American people should be made aware of their options as well. The future for them might not be as bleak as it is presented.

Why do we need to "off-shore" our migration issues to other countries? Seems to me like a desperate way to get away form any guilt we might have for punishing people who did NOTHING WRONG OR ILLEGAL and sending them to other countries not their own.

If it helps some Americans sleep better while they punish kids for NOTHING maybe that's a good thing.

Well, that's pretty dark. Did you think maybe you could find some other country that would be great that you could go to? Would it help you if someone said "Don't feel bad, it's not like you are being kicked out off the earth entirely...just WE AMERICANS hate you!"

Priceless.

Good to know.

She should follow her path.

And i agree that Trump should reveal this.

Amen.

Hopefully. But this whole talk of "They could go to Canada!" sounds too much like a post hoc justification to keep ourselves from feeling bad for doing a bad thing.

Amen.

You should remember that as a Christian you should always do unto others as you would have them do to you.

This young woman is for all intents and purposes a 100% American who did NOTHING ILLEGAL herself and she is facing being kicked out of her home for NO REASON.

If you say "amen" for that then surely you hope that will happen to you one day!

You gotta understand the problem. When (not if) the Dreamers get their amnesty the floodgates will be opened. Mexicans will launch their babies into this country with catapults if necessary.

There's no "whole talk". Few are even aware of this proposal.
