  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Now I finally understand

snoochface! That's a splendid idea!! :D I have other things I need to get rid of too...some music and some books. I've never felt that my offerings in church were "enough". I'm struggling financially, so sometimes I can only give a dollar or two.

I'm feeling very vulnerable today, and unsure. I'm usually very hard on myself when it comes to alot of things, and today is no different.

God recently set me free of my gaming addiction :) so on some levels I know how you feel :) Strange that something you take so much pleasure in can hide the chains it binds around you so well...

I thought if I sacrificed my Gaming I would miss it, but instead since the day I gave it to God I have not played, I feel released :)

So praise God for His Grace and Wisdom :)

Robskiwarrior, congrats on your new freedom! I personally still have alot of work to do...I still smoke cigarettes, and although many people make me feel guilty about it, I'm having a terrible time trying to put them down.

I ended up tossing the books in the garbage. It was hard for a few minutes. I know I could have made a pretty penny off of them, but I couldn't shake the idea that I may be putting a stumbling block in front of somebody else. I didn't want to do that.

Cigarette smoking is a difficult addiction to quit.
I have a friend who recently quit who had smoked for most of her life and she is around our age. She did accupuncture and it worked for her. I do not know how expensive it was or if insurance helped pay for it, but she was desperate and has a lot of health issues and I know that she had been touched by the Lord to quit smoking and that was how she did it. She has not smoked in about a month now. :)
I think that for each of us the Lord works in different ways. For me, shortly after I was saved, my sister, who was not yet saved, went to a church meeting with me (she was saved later that week) and she was telling the other people at the meeting - it was a college age outing at a lake - that they needed to help me quit smoking. One of the sisters there told me to call on the Lord - say "Oh Lord Jesus" out loud every time I wanted a cigarette. It was a long time ago and I remember calling on the Lord often, but I am not sure if that is what got me to quit or not, but I don't remember ever smoking a cigarette after that.
I pray that the Lord will help you in this matter also.

Remeber the bible is living word! The Holy Spirit opens our eyes to what God is trying to say to us. The best way to hear from God is by reading the bible. If that passage jumped out at you and encoraged and helped you, thats exactly what God wanted it to do. So your not stupid. :)
