  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

A common sense question for cassidy..

If a predator forces his way into a home, what would be a better deterrent..

Supporting scripture:
Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand,... Matthew 5:15

Hi Pinetree,

The problem with your idea of gun control, is that you only control the population that is law-abiding anyway. The criminals who won't obey the laws will not listen to your gun controls....

The best way is to remove access to all guns. Nobody has guns, then the levels of homicide, violent crimes etc will drop.

yes,yes..all school shootings are awful!

And you have a lot of them in your country...ALOT!!!

We are a nation of 300 million,not a pipsqeak country.:D(no offense;))

Is that your defence????

There are criminals, and freedom dictaes that we will defend ourselves.

Freedom must still reign..

And it does.

Here in America, whenever states pass laws "allowing" people to carry a gun,the crime goes down!

Why?

Becasue the scum know that woman,or old guy, might just stick a 45 in their face,on a dark parking lot one night.

Because you have allowed guns for 100's of years...guns are easily accessible in your country...any twit can just go and buy one! They can be a homicidal maniac...but they can go to the local gun shop and just buy a gun....just like that! And also...because so many law abiding citizens have guns....Any crazed lunatic can go to their grandmother's house...go to her gun cabinet and take out her gun and shoot everyone...at a whim!!! In fact...he can walk into anyone's house, friend, family...neighbour and just reach for their gun...since everyone owns one, and shoot people at a whim...just because he's angry.

But I can tell you now...that if one of my family, friends or neighbour, decided that he was angry enough for shoot himself or someone else...they'd be hard pressed to find one...he'd have to go through the whole rigamorale of finding someone who knows someone who knows someone who knows how to get a gun and for a fee...can obtain said gun...and by that time...he's over whatever angered him because he's calmed down.

See that is a statistic you ignore,in your sweeping generalizations of wish..

Home invasions, rapes robberies,assaults,kidnappings..what does a soul do where you live?

Well I've been raped...pinetree and I'm here to tell you that a gun would NOT have stopped it! So this little soul, if I had had a gun safely in my gun cabinet at home....would have been helpless anyway!!!!

Or this?

We still have guns here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't you read??

We just don't have automatics and semi-automatics!!!! But we can have access to other guns. I choose NOT to because I have children who I want to stay safe.

My husband is a funeral director/undertaker/mortician....and he had to pick up brains, scull, teeth, hair from the ceiling walls of one of those huge sheds that you have on farms...because he went to his father's gun safe...got out a gun that the father had legally (it was some sort of rifle used on farms) and put it to the roof of his mouth!

So before you start singing gun's praises...have a thought to those poor parents who had to walk into that shed and see bits of their little boy...all over the place!!

The father has since destroyed all his guns!

Sorry, I must have missed it, and can't remember which posting I asked you that question. SO could you explain it to me again?:)

I put christian seeker because no other 'labels' fit (I hate labels anyway)....and so thought 'christian seeker' was a good way to describe a Christian who is always seeking the knowledge of God - me!
