  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Its großly over-rated. Its not bad, but its way too cheesy to be spooky. I don't get why its so popular.

"Faust" by the same director is much, much, much better. Best horror movie I've seen.

Paul Wegener's "The Golem" is also pretty good if you like old fashioned horror.

The much better "Faust" was made in 1926.

"The Golem" was made in 1920 and is much spookier than Nosferatu.

Heck, even "Metropolis" was scarier than Nosferatu.

And its hard not to laugh at a movie where the protaganist tells his wife excitedly he's going to "the land of thieves and ghosts!"

I've already listed a buch of scarier movies from the period. Nosferatu is simply not scary, nor is it very spooky.

And I am well aware of the degeneration of the horror genre from "spooky and creepy" to "gory slasher flick".

Go watch "Faust", its much better than "Nosferatu".

I've got a copy of it. I liked it. Shreck (sp?) was perfect for the role.

It's interesting how it was based (or maybe out and out ripped off) on Bram Stoker's version of the tale, but legal issues were raised and names and places were changed to placate.

I've been gone for a few days. So you can imagine my surprise to see a thread about one of my favorite early horror films.

It is, imo, one of the all time greats. No need for graphic violence or over the top gore. Just good pacing and excellent use of light and shadow.

If you can find them, there are two versions that you should check out. Both have the complete intact film. The changes are in the score. One has goth/rock music from the band Type O Negative. The music helps to enhance the drama and horror aspects of the film.
The other, released a couple of years ago, has the original score written for the film. The score was discovered about 5 years ago in Germany. This version of the music underscores the dark supernatural elements of the film. While the film remains the same, it is amazing how much different music can enhance various elements .

Yeah like the original and the 70's one with Isabelle Adjani in it. Shadow of the Vampire with William Defoe is great too.
