Laurie looked down at her watch as she was talking to Bethany. She would be late if she didn't hurry. When Bethany said something about the moped, it caught her attention. " Huh?? How'd you know about the moped? Who'd you hear from?" She looked at Beth and Beth looked down. Laurie said quickly, "Uh, we can talk later, but I've got to go. Yeah I do have to get the moped. I'll call you later!" she said as she rushed off.
When she got to the desk, she asked for the moped. She showed ID and the police officer looked at it, then looked up at her. "Follow me for a moment" he said. She followed him to the back. Then he showed her a waiting room. She sat there for about fifteen minutes as she read her John Grisham novel. She was into it and didn't notice time flying by. When she looked up again, an hour had passed. She gasped and ran to the desk. "Where's the moped!?" she asked frantically. "I'm late!!"
The woman at the desk said, "What moped? You weren't here to pick that up were you? The police man said you were here for visiting." Laurie slapped her forehead and then said, "I'm here for the moped, and I'm late. I need it immediately. " The woman pointed to a door and said, "Go in there and to the right at the end of the hall. You'll find the police man and you can ask him for the moped."
Laurie bustled down the hall and into the room. "Where's the moped?" she asked. She was on edge already, and the police men looked up as if she was unexpected. "What moped?" they asked. Laurie closed her eyes, counted to ten, and said, "The moped I came in here an hour and a half ago to pick up." she said in a cold tone. The officers looked at her and then looked around. "We have a few questions for you. Why do you want the moped?"
Laurie couldn't believe her ears. She was enraged. "I want the moped because I was supposed to be at the hospital an hour and a half ago to pick up my boyfriend, who is waiting." She voiced each syllable hostilely and hoped that the officers would understandt hat she was impatient and late. "Who does it belong to?" they asked. "That moped belongs to my boyfriend. Can I have it now!?" The officers gave a short nod towards the one interrogating her and then he said, "You can have it, but you have to come back here later and clear it. There was drugs found near the moped the night it crashed, and we need to talk to your boyfriend."
Laurie gasped and then took a deep breath. Derek doesn't do drugs she told herself. She then pushed it out of her mind, grabbed the keys, and raced down the hall. She got on the moped and started it up. Then she whizzed away to the hospital. She pulled up out front just in time to see Derek walking out. "Derek! I'm here!" she yelled as he shot her a questioning and impatient look.
