I seei never read the catechism....
I see![]()
Fair enough but then why comment in a Thread about how non-Catholic people see the Catechism of the Catholic Church if you have never read it?C'mon, MC, i'm not Catholic
i've never been exposed to the Cathechism.....
but i know Jesus the Christ, the only begotten Son of the living God.....
i would suppose that i would be in agreement with much of it, though....![]()

Every Christian ought to read it if they are able to do so. They ought to read it because it is a source of good teaching, morals, and spiritual wisdom.....speaking of the Catechism, can you tell me why/if i should read it?

It is not inspired holy scripture whereas the bible that I have is.Thank you.
How does it differ from the Bible?

I read both, and other books too.ok, that was probably my point......
if it's not inspired holy scripture, why not read what is holy scripture, the Bible?

The Catechism is systematic. There's no one section of Sacred Scripture which addresses, for example, baptism. There is such a thing in the Catechism though. The Catechism either quotes from Sacred Scripture or else gives chapters and verses from Sacred Scripture and usually includes relevant sections of encyclicals, councils, etc, to explain why the Church teaches what she does.ok, that was probably my point......

The end result is a pretty comprehensive explanation of a given subject. The Catechism possesses a specificity that Sacred Scripture simply does not possess because that is not why Sacred Scripture was inspired by God. The Catechism is organized to be a reference guide to Catholic doctrine to allow you to look up why Catholics believe in, say, the resurrection or why we believe what we do regarding the Eucharist.
Put simply, one is not "better" than the other. It isn't either/or. Sacred Scripture can very often tell you what. The Catechism was compiled to explain why. They're not meant to do the same thing. They serve different purposes.
As much as anything, to provide a witness to history regarding God and His works, His promises and so forth. God Himself could probably answer that question better than I could. Why was sacred scripture inspired by God?
