NIV vs. KJV

That's one doozy of an assumption, that the KJV is infallible.

I never understood KJV fanaticism.

First, it's not the first English translation. Wycliffe preceded it.

Secondly, it's a translation done in 1611. The scholarship was scholarship of 1611. The language was the language of 1611. There's a reason that's called EARLY modern English. Some of the words are no longer used or have changed meaning.

Thirdly, the more modern translations have incorporated more recent manuscript discoveries and have used almost an extra 400 years of scholarship information in creating them.

Fourthly when I grew up and studied Greek, I discovered that the KJV was not always the best translation of several of the verses I had questions about.

I have no problem with the KJV; it's the most poetic as far as I am concerned and I have done most of my scripture memorization with that version.

But I do have a problem with stating that KJV is infallible just because it reflects the speakers bias. All translations are subject to problems-in-translation.

I think the KJV is superior to the NIV, but I also have (and use) the NIV.

I'm not speaking out only in favor of the NIV; I'm actually in favor of all reputable translations, preferably side-by-side, so that solid meanings as well as translator problems and biases become more obvious.

Both are evil and should not be read , I am translating my own and this is the only one everyone should use cause im Australian and Jesus was Australian so obvioulsy i am the man for the job

Let us see what the NIV did to John 3:16
When we ask Jesus into our

Now, everyone knows John 3:16:

Lets see what the NIV did to confuse the Word of God:
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son... (NIV)

Now, wait a minute, I thought we are also his sons?
The NIV also removed "begotten" from John 1:14 and John 1:18.

What does the NIV have against fasting?
Acts 10:30
...I was fasting until this hour; and at the ninth hour I prayed...(KJV)
...I was in my house praying...(NIV)

1 Corinthians 7:5
...give yourselves to fasting and prayer;(KJV)
...devote yourselves to prayer. (NIV)

Mark 9:29
And he said unto them, This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting.(KJV)
He replied, "This kind can come out only by prayer.(NIV)


Matthew 17:21
Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.(KJV)
(The NIV OMITTED the WHOLE VERSE!) I guess they didn't think that verse was important even though our Lord Jesus said it.

You may like this site. I found it while surfing one time and thought it was very good. I assume you prefer the Textus Receptus, the KJV. So do I! My pastor and most in my church use the NIV and the NIV Bible is what is provided in the pews but I'm sticking with the KJV.

Considering that it took 13 years to complete the entire Bible translation (from 1965-1978) and that it was translated by a multi-denominational group of men that translated each book individually, then had it revised by others 3 different times for a check of english style and it's faithfulness to the original language (whether Hebrew, Aramaic, or Greek), the NIV shouldn't be taken lightly. Literally thousands of hours went into this particular translation with plenty of accountability.

I prefer the NIV to the KJV and even the NKJV, which many of my "friends" have rebuked me for.

My church uses NIV.
I use the following translations:
1. NKJV
2. NIV
3. KJV
4. NLT

All translations (i.e. KJV, RSV, NIV and etc) themselves are not inspired. Only the originals are inspired. However, the Holy Spirit have been with the translators while they were translating. Remember, God is control and keep in mind, its good to see 66 books agree with one another.

About KJV, I love KJV and I use it when I seriously study. My problem is Churches who prefer "KJV only" will have problems reaching out the lost who do not understand KJV. The Churches who spread the gospel using only KJV in my opinion are not doing what Jesus Christ expected them to do as He commanded the "Great Commission". In order to have evangelism ministries, we need to use the language people can understand. Those KJV-only do not apply grace to their ministries simply because they are expecting (in legalism term) that every english speaking sinner and born again believers to READ KJV. The purpose to spread the gospel is to spread the Word of God in person's own language level, not the Church tradition's language level. Grace means to help the lost to KNOW Christ and have them understand salvation in their own level of english skills.

The first Authorized version was written in 1611. Current KJV Bible was written in the language of 1700's. While it is not hard to read but takes LONGER to comprehend what is being said. There are other translations have done a good job making english translation more current to our own english language.

It so is sad to hear people looking down at Christians who don't read KJV. I have been in ministries to those who don't have good education (these are english speaking people who are born in the USA). I once was KJV only but I have HUMBLED and learned that I have to be patience to those who cannot. Even if they have the heart to TRY their best. This is where Christians are in the dark in the Great Commission, who are willing to be "blinded" by personal preference of a particular translation. There is no compassion. There is lack of understanding what is going on in the Christian world. My only hope that those who truly love God’s word will allow whatever the translation they use for their spiritual growth, rather than the personal preferences men and women (also known as legalism). We are to rely on the Holy Spirit when we read our Bibles. God gives us spiritual knowledge with the help from the Holy Spirit. Believing in Christ is not an intellectual exercise though it involves the mind. Believing in Christ is a heart and life commitment to the Savior.
