News: EA Shutting Down Servers for Games Nobody Cares About

EA announced a couple weeks ago that it was shutting down the online servers for slightly older games like Madden 09, NCAA Football 09, and Fight Night Round 3. They’re not stopping there, though. Today EA released a list of 12 titles that are being castrated of their online play in the next couple months. Hope you don’t like Lord of the Rings: Conquest or Burnout 3.

Some of them I get, but Godfather? That was a big deal game. And LotR: Conquest is less than a year old, and there's a sequel coming... They aren't supporting a game that's a year old? Boo, EA...

I liked LotR: Conquest... I'm not at all excited to buy the next in the series when it was so expensive for so long, then suddenly it's an unsupported game.

If they didn't sell and few people use the servers, no point in paying to keep them up.

Now if only someone would shut EA down, the world would be a much better place.

well dang i was excited there for a second when i saw the abreviated title in my bookmarked forums.... i guess hoping EA dies is to much to hope for... they have destroyed far to many good games. HGL and WAR to name a couple...

Whats a great game EA has made lately that meets these two qualifiers:

1)Not developed by a third party worthy in thier own right (ie: Mass Effect 2 and Bioware or Rock Band and Harmonix)
2)Not a +1 year game (ie Sports Game 09)

I went onto FEAR servers (ok old game...was looking to get some achievements) and they were totally empty!

I have no issues with EA.

My biggest EA gripes:

They take interest in a game by a smaller company, usually independent, and get the distribution rights to the game. About 6 months later, they buy the company and sink them by closing them down and releasing several horrible sequels to try and cash in from the name itself.

They release unfinished games. Back in the day, when a game was released, they had to do extensive testing and push back release dates if the bugs weren't worked out. Now days they release way too early and use the internet as an excuse saying that "a patch will come" which sometimes is months to years down the road, if ever.

They destroy games. Everything from the Ultima series to the SimSeries (Most recently, SimCity Societies). They take a well known and loved product and they let it drown with horrible updates and expansions or by changing the whole game.

EA is just money hungry...
