  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Democrats, forever blaming other people and Republicans for problems they and their policies have created and perpetuated. Only problem is half the country eats that stuff up like candy.

Yes, but hopefully there will come a time in places like New York, where there are almost no Republicans to blame, that enough people will see through the blaming and the name calling and the fear mongering.

That requires independent thinking and critical thinking. Something which a large portion of the country lacks. But I hear you

I assure you that violent crime is out of control in New York City, Chicago, and Philadelphia. I also assure you that our southern border is not safe and secure. Your leaders on the left may tell you to the contrary, so I strongly urge you to view video that is out there as well as recordings from people in the neighborhoods that you question. I'm a researcher, it is in my nature to run down information, and of course no one has the time to research everything, but I think we all could do better.

I don't buy your assurances as they are biased. Crime statistics are more factual. Crime is up in most places but it has gone up and is higher per capita in many places more than New York. including many red states.

the vast majority of those places are Democrat strongholds, so perhaps NYC isnt on "the list" but my point remains. Dem policies perpetuate crime and lawlessness

8 of those 10 cities were in Republican states. Look again. It is campaign season and lies are running fast and loose. Republicans try to fuel fear of crime as the way to get votes. I find this kind of ironic because the biggest crime of 2021, the insurrection that threatened to bring down our country, had nothing to do with Democrats or their policies.

The cities have their own police forces, they are not patrolled by the state.
There was no "insurrection," that's fake news. What a bunch of baloney, how many people really thought there was an attempt to take over the U.S. government? As to the victims of violence, these are real people, with real families. Here is a list of those who have been shot and KILLED in Chicago so far THIS YEAR:
Homicides in Chicago: A list of every victim | Chicago Sun-Times
There was one person shot and killed at the Capitol, her name was Ashli Babbitt, she was unarmed and gunned down from a distance.

no no, we aren't talking about states, we are talking about cities. Goalpost changing mid discussions is unfortunately no allowed. But it was a clever attempt. I suppose the cities that burned and countless lives lost in the BLM/Antifa riots were nothing either...

The point is this thread was created to mock the Governor of New York (Gov. Hochul )because of the crime in some of the cities, specifically NYC. and then extend it to all Dems. So don't change the goalpost from the OP and leave out the governors of Missouri, Arkansas, Kansas, Oklahoma, etc. Many are Republican strongholds. It is silly to pretend it is a Dem problem and not a Republican problem too. It is more than who is the mayor. The cities are in Red states and bound by state laws too. Who are the Governors of those Red States?

Check your own OP and the title of this thread. The article in the OP is about the Governor of New York, correct? It is criticizing that Governor for crime in NYC, right?

Don't change the goal posts and insist the crime in Red states are because of the mayors and not the governors, but then criticize the governors in blue states for crime in their cities. That is very hypocritical.

Stop perpetuating the lie about Jan. 6th. Babbitt was committing a crime and not following the orders of Capitol Police who were protecting House members nearby. I am surprised more insurrectionists weren't killed. And yes, the insurrectionists did plan to disrupt the certification of the election, and cause enough problem so Trump could use the Insurrection act. They were committing a crime and many have been sentenced in court.

you are right, the point of the thread is aimed at Democrats. You listed a bunch of cities and tried to make the connection between how safe NYC is and how it isnt listed as dangerous per statistics. I pointed out that you made my point for me. As the vast majority of those cities are run by Democrats. My initial comment was that Democrats and their policies perpetuate crime. Again, you made my point for me. Thank you :)

Actually you missed the mark. The point of the thread was to blame the GOVERNOR of New York for NYC crime. You moved the goalposts by blaming the mayors of the cities rather than the governors. Pretty simple to understand.

We can do this all day, I'd rather not though. I never once mentioned cities in any of my initial remarks. I made a comment generalizing Democrats and their policies as the foundation of lawlessness in the country (synopsis). You replied to that comment by posting two separate links showing that NYC (the crown jewel of the Empire State) is not listed among the most dangerous. You brought cities into the discussion, not me.

I merely pointed out that by trying to make your point that NYC is not as crime ridden as people claim it is, you helped me make my point that Democrat policies do contribute to high crime rates as I showed 8 of the 10 cities on one such list are governed by a Democrat. Again thank you for your contribution! :)
