Creeds are devices to keep heretics out rather than draw people in. I believe that each of us, as an individual, have a responsibility before God, to determine what is true about God and also what is false.
historically, the church has gone more and more and more and more (since the earliest of days) of finding ways of erecting man made barricades to keep "them" out, whoever "them" may be.
We worked hard for a long time to work towards doing away with this mentality at CF--I fear this is a slippery slope towards erecting even more barricades.

The Symbol is a good standard. I think I posted once that if you use anything else, you have about a 99% chance of falling into heresy.

What is important is what Staff does with that standard.

If there is anyone on Staff I trust to say what he means and do what he says, it's Tonks. He may be brusque and prone to headaches, but his most important characteristic in this context is that he is honest.
agreed on all counts--especially about Tonks

Yes.

No.

The most prominently condemned "false teachers" in the New Testament are the Judaizers/Ebionites who demanded that Gentiles follow the Law and the Docetists who denied Jesus was God in the flesh.

I see little condemnation of the modern-day descendants of these heresies and in fact a good deal of promotion of them pass without notice or question on this site.

There is a new owner and it is his call as to what this site will be.
Just a reality.

God seeks those who worship Him in spirit and TRUTH.

Sweeping away truth standards is a mark of spiritual decline.

My view is the owner and his selected Advisors set the guidelines and we can participate to whatever degree we feel our conscience allows.

Not hard.

And there are other options.

as to the highlighted part---trying to get me banned?
;)
as to the rest
I fully support the owner's RIGHT to do with the site however the owner sees fit (kinda like I see God can do as he sees fit). I just pray the PRIVILEGE of posting is not compromised for those who don't agree

Some of the discussion here reminds me of a visit I did to Deir Mar Musa Al-Habashi a few years ago- a wonderful Christian monastery in the mountains of Syria.

To anyone who subscribes to the Nicene Creek, the peace and tranquility of this site, and the godliness of the faithful who reside here, is profound; it is a place where the Holy Spirit is likely as evident as it would be anywhere in the world.

For me, it was a highly emotional experience- God is so totally present and real here.

But when I was there, I met an American women who had lived there for several months. As I talked to her, though, about her faith she immediately became defensive. "Oh no," she admitted "I'm not a Christian; I really have no idea of who Jesus is." "I like it here", she continued "-it is such a spiritual place." I asked here what she meant by this, what she believed in. "I don't really know" she answered "- only that it feels spiritual to be here."

Christianity defines a very specific belief, as described beautifully in the Nicene Creed. Christians are not just "spiritual"; they don't just believe in a "supreme being"- they have a very specific set of beliefs; beliefs that start with an acceptance that God created the Universe, and end with the belief that we are all sinners, doomed to being in hell for eternity unless we totally embrace the life-saving sacrifice that Jesus Christ did for us on the cross. Anything less may be spiritual- but it is not Christianity.

My goodness, what a ridiculous and hurtful accusation. Maybe try considering that some people actually care about God's glory, hm?

I LOVE GOD, trust me!

I just prefer each loving Him in his/her own way!

why is finding agreement with others supposed to be the primary goal of a MESSAGE BOARD? There ARE safe houses, but the other areas ought to be as wide open as possible--UNITING ALL CHRISTIANS used to means something around here.

A

ALL Christians are clearly not invited here!

Yes, uniting ALL Christians used to mean something ... if not here!

If the Goal is to go back to the oldest confessions, I do like the Apostle's Creed better, but EVEN better than that is the oldest confession known to Christianity. From the Christ Hymn in Philippians 2:
"Jesus Christ is Lord!"
and you can back that up with how PAUL defined a Christian in Romans 10:9:
"if you confess with your lips that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved."
Nearly 300 years older than the Nicene Creed, much more inclusive, much more open, much simpler, much less influence by the political world of the Roman Empire, much less exclusive, and IMHO, much more Christ like.

Strange, and very sad, that some need regulations and rejecting others, to feel safe in their faith!

:(:|

This just shows you the 2 divisions here they're trying to unite.

let's just light 900 candles, link pinks and sing Kumbayah in tye die robes
WHO CARES ABOUT WHAT GOD SAYS IS TRUE.

I don't think that this is actually as huge a thing as everyone is making out, afaik, the creed has been introduced as a statement of what CF stands for. No-one is being asked to agree to every point before they can post, it simply gives an idea of the basis of belief of the site's owner and advisors.
I think... and I very much hope... that it is not an attempt to kick anyone out for what they believe or don't believe. And I don't think that it is actually hugely different from the Statement of Faith we had before..

Most folks seem to have been pretty restrained in this thread.

The loudest complaints seem to come not from "the usual suspects" :D but from those who want CF to implement a combination of The Gay Hatin' Gospel (h/t Slacktivist) and the Chicago Statement on Inerrancy as the Rule of Faith.
