The GC claim is Ellen has the authority. so you are at odds with with your Church.
that is not what they say, but that is wrong too.I think he is just saying that they consider her to be inspired, so it is God's authority through her writings.
Depends if you believe the scriptures teach that prophets are given God's inspired Words or not I guess and all the other scriptures from *Romans 12:6, 1 Corinthians 12:28, 29; 13:1-3, 8; 14:6, and in Ephesians 4:11. *see Revelation 12:17; Revelation 14:12 compare Revelation 19:10 which is one of the signs of Gods' last day Church. For me personally I believe the scriptures.that is not what they say, but that is wrong too.
Do you believe that a person who has the gift of prophecy spoken of in 1 Corinthians 12 and 14 is a prophet?Depends if you believe the scriptures teach that prophets are given God's inspired Words or not I guess and all the other scriptures from *Romans 12:6, 1 Corinthians 12:28, 29; 13:1-3, 8; 14:6, and in Ephesians 4:11. *see Revelation 12:17; Revelation 14:12 compare Revelation 19:10 which is one of the signs of Gods' last day Church. I am not sure if I understand your question. How can you be a prophet if you do not have the gift of prophecy? That is a contradiction isn't it?Do you believe that a person who has the gift of prophecy spoken of in 1 Corinthians 12 and 14 is a prophet?
Well, I'll try putting the question a different way.I am nos sure if I understand your question. How can you be a prophet if you do not have the gift of prophecy? That is a contradiction isn't it?
Brown-Driver-Briggs Hebrew & Thayer Greek Definitions - G4396
προφήτης; prophētēs Thayer Definition:
1) in Greek writings, an interpreter of oracles or of other hidden things
2) one who, moved by the Spirit of God and hence his organ or spokesman, solemnly declares to men what he has received by inspiration, especially concerning future events, and in particular such as relate to the cause and kingdom of God and to human salvation
Or did I misread your question?
Well, I'll try putting the question a different way.
The gift of prophecy is spoken of in 1 Corinthians 12. Paul also says that we should all seek to prophesy, and we may all prophesy one by one.
But then in Ephesians, I think, Paul says that he gave "some to be prophets".
So is everyone who uses the gift of prophecy in a church service also a prophet? Or is there a difference between the gift of prophecy and the role or office of prophet?
Then relating it to the thread, what was White doing? Was she someone who sought and received the gift of prophecy? Or had God given her the role of prophet? Or is there a difference?
Thanks for the info. Do you think that she received the gift of prophecy? Or was she placed by God in the role of prophet? Or are they the same thing?Life Sketches Manuscript describes the events leading up to her first vision (found in Chapter 8), from her birth to her conversion to Christianity. I recommend reading it for yourself, because it'll give you an understanding of who she was, and the circumstances surrounding her first vision, which led to her life-long work. I don't think you can read it and come away with the idea that she was seeking any gift of prophecy.
Thanks for the info. Do you think that she received the gift of prophecy? Or was she placed by God in the role of prophet? Or are they the same thing?
If someone has a gift of prophecy, and they write down what they say while prophesying, is that writing then inspired by God? Is it different from the scriptures being inspired by God?
Cool! I sense from your answer that you don't really want to explore the subject. If that's not true, please let me know.I agree with SDA Fundamental Belief #18.
The Scriptures testify that one of the gifts of the Holy Spirit is prophecy. This gift is an identifying mark of the remnant church and we believe it was manifested in the ministry of Ellen G. White. Her writings speak with prophetic authority and provide comfort, guidance, instruction, and correction to the church. They also make clear that the Bible is the standard by which all teaching and experience must be tested. (Numbers 12:6; 2 Chronicles 20:20; Amos 3:7; Joel 2:28-29; Acts of the Apostles 2:14-21; 2 Timothy 3:16-17; Hebrews 1:1-3; Revelation 12:17; Revelation 19:10; Revelation 22:8-9.)

You completely dodge his questions.EGW does not make commentary on every bible passage and has never made any claims to being an inspired bible commentary. That again is misinformation. My faith is in Gods' Word which is where she points everyone who reads her writings. My faith is in God who promises to be my guide and teacher which is God's promise to all those who have ears to hear His voice and eyes to see *John 16:13; John 7:17; John 14:26; 1 John 2:27. This is where we should be pointing everyone don't you think?
Not really I corrected the what was implied in the question and told the truth by sharing scripture or are you another one that thinks there is no such thing as prophets in God's new testament Church (see post # 83 linked)? You completely dodge his questions.
I believe the scripture is inspired, but your conclusion, interpretation and application are not inspired.Depends if you believe the scriptures teach that prophets are given God's inspired Words or not I guess and all the other scriptures from *Romans 12:6, 1 Corinthians 12:28, 29; 13:1-3, 8; 14:6, and in Ephesians 4:11. *see Revelation 12:17; Revelation 14:12 compare Revelation 19:10 which is one of the signs of Gods' last day Church. If you believe that the scriptures are inspired you would believe what was shared with you earlier as the scriptures shared with you earlier teach that prophecy is a spiritual gift of Gods' last day Church. I do not believe your conclusions, interpretation and application are inspired either but of course you are free to offer your opinions even if they are unsupported by scripture.I believe the scripture is inspired, but your conclusion, interpretation and application are not inspired.
I see your circular reasoning and call you on it. it's true because you believe it and you believe it because it is true. No objective standard to measure against. When tested against the scripture EGW fails the test.Your response here...

Take Care.
There was no circular reasoning only reasonable reasoning supported by the scriptures shared with you. All you have provide in response is you quoting you in disagreement with the scriptures shared with you without showing why you are in disagreement so we will of course agree to disagree. Of course as posted earlier, it all depends on if you believe the scriptures teach that prophets are to give God's inspired Words or not and that God has given us prophets for His last day Church as shown in *Romans 12:6, 1 Corinthians 12:28, 29; 13:1-3, 8; 14:6, and in Ephesians 4:11. *see Revelation 12:17; Revelation 14:12 compare Revelation 19:10 which is one of the signs of Gods' last day Church. 1. she made predictions that did not come true. - Said people would be alive to see Jesus return. All are dead.
2. She claimed God showed her in vision. that a point of doctrine was true, then she changed her mind 30 years later.
3. she advised her husband against his views on Daniel 11:40-45 which were accurate in favor of Uriah Smith view which is in error. In order to win his favor 7 support politically. so he would advocate for them, because they were on the outs with the denomination.
Conditional prediction just like those in the bible1. she made predictions that did not come true. - Said people would be alive to see Jesus return. All are dead.
Where? Let's examine the contexts2. She claimed God showed her in vision. that a point of doctrine was true, then she changed her mind 30 years later.
