My personal opinion? Why not let them do it? Might serve as kind of a filter enhancer, and maybe even something of a ratings system for adult websites. AND, you could pass legislation requiring any adult oriented website to register with the .xxx domain. Sounds like the Bush administration would be overlooking the bigger picture here.

Interestingly enough when this issue came up before there were a number of politicians who agreed with my viewpoint, but it was ICANN that turned down .xxx. In fact, they were called on the carpet about it, with Jospeh Lieberman and Rep. Fred Upton saying it would have been a good way to put adult websites in their place.

I agree. It's going to be out there anyway... why not do what we can to 'contain' them in one area... makes it easier for filters and blocks.

I don't really see the problem with this on either side. Call me an idealist, but I honestly don't think pornographers actually want kids looking at their stuff....and this would make it abundantly easier for parents to keep their kids from seeing smut. Those who want to look at this stuff could still look at it all day long if they so desire, and those who don't want to see it won't ever stumble upon it accidentally.

These people complain about porn sites on .com/.net/.us whatever. The next logical step is to rid these popular domains of xxx content, by separating them from the 'mainstream.'

They complain about that.

There's only one other step. Outright banishment of xxx material on the internet. What else can they do? I wish these people would come forward with their true agenda, internet censorship.

In other news, the Blair government is objecting to the expansion of the police force, saying it has concerns about a possible reduction in crime.

That's the point! You can have the strip club in the red light district, or you can have the strip club opposite your school.

Well, one reason the world is getting worse is because of religious extremists like OBL that want to impose their restrictive personal moral code on all people rather than opting for a free society.
