• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I find going to the gym rewarding as well. I have been working out consistently since 2005. When I slack off for more than a few days, I can tell a difference in my mood and energy level. What kind of things do you do at the gym?

I agree, going to the gym really lifts my mood. At the moment I run cycle, and row. I was once a boxer, when I was younger I had very acute anxiety and even cut myself, to get rid of the tension I joined a boxing gym, this helped me let out my frustrations, it’s really nice to be back the gym keeping fit.

I haven't been working out nearly as much as I was previously this year. I was doing cardio around 5 times per week and strength training 2-3 times per week. Now I am just doing cardio about 3 times per week and I haven't been strength training because I don't want to leave my laptop unattended in the gym after class. Leaving it in the car would be inconvenient as well because I don't park close to campus - I take the bus and also walk. And I don't want to drive all the way out to school just to go to the gym because that's an hour in the car and gas costs a lot.

Anyway, I'm wondering if working out less is why I have been grumpy lately. I also am having some issues with fatigue. I know if I work out more again it will help to get my energy back up and put me in a better mood, but it is difficult to motivate myself to do it.

Next Tuesday a gym (that is free to members of my neighborhood) is opening, though, so I can start doing my strength training there. I know I have to start that up again because my last bloodwork showed some hormonal and blood sugar problems that I had previously managed to get rid of with strength training. :sigh:

I go for a walk nearly everyday. I have found this to be one of the best things I could ever have done for my mental health. I try to remind myself of that on those days where I'm only half hearted in going out. Going to the gym has never interested me, possibly because of my social phobia, but who knows maybe one day. Doing some form of exercise is something that I would definately recommend to anyone who has anxiety 'cos I can certainly testify to it's benefits.
