New Icons

Hello,

I just recieved my first two icons......how does one go about getting them blessed??? should I just ask my priest or is there some kind of formal thing?? thanks very much!

Your priest will bless them; generally, they just put them on the altar during liturgy, if memory serves.

Yes, just have someone run the icon to the altar before Liturgy. After Liturgy, you should get it back, blessed

Either give it to the priest directly or to an altar server who will give it to the priest so it can be blessed.

aside: Only priests or deacons (& subdeacons ?) may place or remove items on the altar table.

Icon blessing ususally takes the form of having the icon put on the altar duing the Divine Liturgy and then blessed by the priest after the liturgy. There are various other derivitives of this form for special needs. There are certain icons which I request to be left on the altar for longer than the Divine Liturgy, and there are times when I ask to have the icon Chrismated as well. But these are exceptions to the general form.
