Especially when it could be handed out by campaign groups for one of the people on the ballot!

Yeah. Too bad Republicans aren't compassionate enough to distribute water to those poor folks who they are trying to slowly disenfranchise.

What prevented them with just saying "can't hand out water or snacks with political messaging on them"?

Nope. Can't do that.

Have to keep it fair. No electioneering.

Look... MOST Americans aren't standing in line for hours on end. Most Americans are not without IDs. I have to provide my ID and all kinds of information if I purchase a firearm and still because of my military service I have to wait before I can finalize the purchase.... and yet Democrats want the "honor system" when voting. LOL

If you can't properly identify yourself, you shouldn't be allowed to vote. Period.

Besides, a federal takeover of the election process is a violation of states rights as stipulated by the Constitution.

Well, since it is already illegal it would seem pointless.

Oops, that'll teach me to leave the window sit for a while without refreshing. Still true though.

Oh, but why? Shouldn't a candidate be able to give a drink of water to their supporters?

Texas says supply chain issues have limited the number of voter registration forms it can give out

The Texas Secretary of State’s office is having more trouble than usual getting enough voter registration cards to groups who help Texans register to vote.

Sam Taylor, assistant secretary of state for communications, said supply chain issues have made it harder and more expensive to get paper, which means the Secretary of State's office will be giving out fewer voter registration forms to groups ahead of elections this year.

According to Chimene, this is one of the pitfalls of Texas being among the few states in the country that does not have online voter registration.

Chimene said the Secretary of State’s office has told the League [of Women Voters] to seek out donations instead of relying on the state for voter registration forms. She said she “didn’t appreciate” this considering the fact her group is a non-partisan nonprofit. However, Chimene said, her group will try and do what it can.

Federal judge sides with UF professors in free speech dispute
'UF has bowed to perceived pressure from Florida’s political leaders,' judge says
A federal judge has sided with three University of Florida political science professors, giving them a preliminary win in their fight to provide expert witness testimony in a lawsuit challenging a new state election law that starts in less than two weeks.

Sharon Austin, Daniel Smith and Michael McDonald challenged the constitutionality of the revised policy after they were denied permission to provide expert testimony in a case challenging a new state elections law that places restrictions on voting by mail, among other things.

"Declaring such activities a conflict of interest, UF has repeatedly blocked professors from providing expert testimony against the State in cases implicating hot-button political issues," Walker noted.

Now it just becomes a question of what's proper ID. Past GOP attempts to define this had a bit of a problem with a clear "discriminatory intent", to quote the court cases they lost.

And If you can't afford a certified copy of your birth certificate and you don't have a car to drive to the polling place and you can't stand in line for 6 hours, it's your own fault!

Photo ID's are available, and sometimes are offered for free.
Seriously, if voting is such a big and important thing in a person's life, is there really not enough time in the year to obtain an ID? If they can't find the time to do that, then it must not be very important to them to vote. Maybe it's because they spend too much time complaining about it that there's no time to do it.

Even better, vaccination cards are always free.

Agree - there's no reason one wouldn't want to get a required-to-vote freely available vaccination card.

You're making my points about the benefits of using vaccination cards as voter ID for me.

I personally think we need to stop bickering about this as if it's always the OTHER side causing problems. Both sides have objected and protested lawful elections, claiming fraud. They did it to Trump, they did it to Biden. Heck, Stacy Abrams still walks around thinking she won the Georgia governor's race and fought the results hard. BOTH sides have done their best to change election laws to something that favors their party.

And who has done more?

Jan. 6 panel is investigating a Trump administration plan to seize voting machines

I never saw Stacy Abrams storm the Capitol, or any building, or break any law saying she was cheated.

I draw the line at violence, and the republicans own that because of Jan 6th

My bickering only has to do with how many people need to go to jail for Jan 6th. I say all of them, republicans say none of them.
