How many animals have you hunted yourself, macho boy? I hear these guys at church with PETA jokes and acting so tough, "I eat anutheeng with a face on it, man!" I'm thinking, "these hapless dweebs probably wouldn't have the ganas to shoot a rattlesnake!"

Funny thing for me is, since I was about 8 years old, I've always wished with all my heart that we didn't have to destroy the life of an animal in order to eat. I positively hate it, I swear. And after coming back from week-long science camp, being around so many animals in the foothills, I think my heart is more tender. Feasting on the flesh of something that was previously just walking around a forest looking for grass or a plain chewing some alfalfa, it seems just so odd to me....and the gentle nature of Orthodoxy and its zest for life, seems so incongruous to me. I've heard that compassion for animals and a desire not to eat off death shows spiritual progress in the Orthodox Church. I guess there is ONE area in which I'm progressing! LOL

I am from PA, where we get the first day of deer season off as an excused absence from school. one of my earliest memories was helping my uncle gut a whitetail.

A friend in London, used to have to stay at a hotels in Edinbugh, for work. She's comment on the room's tartan rugs, tartan drapes, tartan bed linens, tartan wallpaper, tartan towels, tartan toilet paper
