I was a major board gamer; Star Fleet Battles by Task Force Games was our favorite. That one is chock-full of schematics. I always loved to play the Romulans. Not to my level. I've met a ton of these folks in real life and went to conventions as a kid. In junior high I was studying schematics of the various starships (as if they were real!? LOL!), and I owned, yes, owned Mark Okrand's Klingon Dictionary. I know, disturbing indeed
I'll never forget the time I was down in Pasadena, CA at a convention and was looking for a ballroom where Jonathan Frakes was supposed to be speaking. I went into the wrong board room and there were 30 people dressed head to toe in 100% legit Klingon make-up, wigs, and armor gear. I kid you NOT! They were speaking in Klingon and they all turned to me looking furious that someone would accidentally open up that door! "Ka cha huk cha-qui bunai kup ha" they were all discussing God-knows-what! I closed that door like I had seen a ghost!
I saw Gene Roddenberry speak about 9 months before he passed away. At the time I felt like Roddenberry was an ethereal heaven-sent genius superhero. It was years later that I learned about his intense atheism and devotion to secular humanism and distaste for religion that really disappointed me in a massive way.
Star Trek will always be something I love, but the secular humanist stuff that permeates it to some degree makes me want to ralf.
That was my favorite of those three. I'm saving the better ones. This is the best one yet!
