New Depth of Depravity: Book of Daniel

I know for a fact that most of the families in my church don't deal with these within their own homes.

You never can tell what is going on under the surface. People hide the worst stuff the deepest.

The point is that there is a vast majority of Christian families who don't deal wiht all of these problems, or even just some.

Some do, some don’t. Either way the show was ridiculously sensational.

You'd be surprised by what goes on behind the closed doors of Christian families. That you find it hard to imagine that such things go on in the homes of Christians says that you probably have a very healthy family. Thank the Lord for that. But please don't deceive yourself and think that Christian families have wonderful lives. For starters, the divorce rate for Christians is the same as it is for non-Chriwstians, and slightly higher according to some research.

Does every cop on TV have to be a perfect example of what a cop should be? Does every doctor on TV have to be the perfect doctor? Why do we expect a Christian family to be perfect?

I find the show repulsive. I also heard from a woman who was an "extra" on the show, and she talked about how the producers were going on about how this show was going to change how people think about religion. How deep and intellectual it was.

How about this Episcopalian priest giving a sermon about temptation, saying that it is not our fault? "Temptation hunts us down. [oh yes, avoid all personal responsibility--typical Hollywood tripe] Sometimes we just can't escape it. Maybe we should instead embrace it. Maybe the next time temptation comes looking for us, we shouldn't beat outselves up for giving in." This is where the Jesus character should appear, "Saaay what?? Earth to Daniel, I said 'Lead us not into temptation...' What part of that don't you get?"

Oh yes. This man is a fine example of a Christian leader. Jesus would most definitely be consorting regularly with this fellow. If Jesus actually did appear to anyone, they would be on their FACE, unable to even look upon His glory. I must have missed that part. This show is mocking Him. The writer said as much. And for anyone who says that Jesus regularly hung out with prostitutes, etc, so why wouldn't he hang out with this loser? Where is the part where he tells the man "Go and sin no more."? No. This false Jesus only appears when the priest is about to pop pills. He is relegated to the role of "sidekick". He is an insufferable surfer-dude type that looks as if he has been dipping into a nickel-bag himself. This Jesus NO ONE would follow to the bus stop, much less DIE for.

This is mocking my Lord and Savior, and I will have no part of it. I saw enough of it and heard enough of it. It makes me so sad that people are so lost. I am praying for these people involved in the show's production.

I predict this show will be axed. Besides offending half the population, the writing and acting are excruciating to endure.

I know, I know. I get a little heated. But when I feel that someone is mocking my Lord (as I feel this show is), I get a little testy. Then I calm down and am just sad.

There is no one who has not sinned. It is impossible. This means failure is inevitable. I would disagree with the "embrace it" piece, but we should not beat ourselves up over failure. That was the whole reason Jesus came, to make our failures reversible.

Oh yes. This man is a fine example of a Christian leader.

Ther have been far worse, again, nobody is perfect.

He did it once in the Bible. I actually found those scenes apt, with the pills. He will tell you and tell you, and then not waste His breath, as in the show. Daniel was given over to his transgression.

I would not say it is or is not. I certainly would not want to try to write it, but, having watched all of it, there was good with bad.

My problem with it is simply the fac that they are portraying it as all Christians are like this, you may know some people with these problems, but that's no the point. What channel do you watch the news on??? Commercials on the news tend to feature cars, financial services companies and the Aflac duck... to be sure, the duck is usually naked... but pornographic?

Some of these channels on TV today have commercials for ere%##** dysfunction drugs. Levitra ads and others don't show the people undressing but its the words they use. I find myself suddenly turning the channel if one of my kids are in the room. Its not pornograhic, but its not what I want my 13 year old to know about right now and my 6 year old asking questions about.

The leadership of this church are not relying on the sustaining grace and strength of our Lord to help them. All of them are lost. Many are relying on alcohol or drugs to help them deal with the pain of everyday life. I have heard that the Episcopal church endorsed this nonsense. Unbelievable.

Unfortunately this is not unbelievable. I am just glad they don’t have them molesting children. That would never happen either.



The drugs and other debauchery are better than what happens in real life.



The show is still without value, don’t get me wrong, but I do not find the issues offensive. I find the acting and writing offensive.

And as for my comment about their Jesus being an insufferable surfer-dude type, I was not speaking about his LOOKS, I was speaking of his demeanor and the way he spoke. My Jesus wouldn't say to someone "What do I know? I'm not a fortune teller." Please. I stand by my comment that no one would follow this guy to the bus stop, much less DIE for him.

My Jesus wouldn't say to someone "What do I know? I'm not a fortune teller."

My Jesus was always a bit sarcastic and biting with the Pharisees. To say He had no sense of humor is speculation at best. I would not be comfortable putting words into or restricting words from His mouth.

I find myself in the middle on this who issue, spineless you know . I think that the show is too sensational to be good in any realm. I say this with one caveat. This is how the world sees us, a bunch of hypocrites. Is this wholly inaccurate? Are not priests molesting children (one on the news last night in Detroit here)? Are not the hierarchy in some churches moving them around to protect them? I think everything shown on the show is no worse than reality. I think we, as Christians, can use this for some introspection as to how we reflect God’s light. If this is how the world views us, we are failing our Master. I also agree with a previous poster that we can use this as conversation starter to reveal the real truth of God.



My biggest concern was how they were going to portray Jesus. I have little problem with how they did this. There was some Hollywood, and some good depictions of how He leaves us to the sins we refuse to give up. There were, at least the first and only one I watched, always consequences for the sins that were depicted.
