Why would "non-Christians" need too?
The problem I have with most creationists here is that they do indeed try to use the bible as a scientific journal. They use scripture to try and disprove scientific theories. Scripture isn't about explaining nature, its about explaning God. I would have no problem with most creationists here if they didn't try to use the bible to explain nature. It's somewhat amusing but also somewhat irritating to see atheists and agnostics try to come to grips with the merits of a work of faith. If you don't have faith as a starting point, and you try to read the Bible as a scientific journal, you're going to not only misunderstand, but also completely miss the point.
Personally I have no interest in discrediting people of faith. I am interested in discrediting lies and misinformation about science.Of course the whole point of this thread is to discredit people of faith, so it shouldn't be surprising to see you all try so hard, but no matter how hard you try you can't discredit something you don't understand.
I smell a subtle threat in there, but yes, I am confident in my rejection of a very poor interpretation of scripture that does not take either the context of the bible, nor reality into consideration.I'm not trying to convert anybody to Christianity here. Just trying to bring some balance to the discussion. In the end, everybody was created with a free will, and a choice to believe or not to believe. I guess you just have to ask yourself, when your last day comes, will you be confident in your decision? And even if you are, it won't matter one iota when you die, because whatever happens after you die is out of your control. You'd better hope you've made the right choice.
So they can accuse us of being hypocrites for not hunting witches, marching off on a crusade, or putting someone through a trial by ordeal.

Uh-huh.Objective people critique the bible as they would any other book. Is it accurate, does it have historical credibility etc. etc..
Uh-huh.
That's why Israel is considered "invaders" when they were ordered into their own land, isn't it?
Of course, they were never in Egypt in the first place, and they didn't wander around in the Sinai for 40 years; so Heaven knows where you guys think they must have come from.
What with herding all those goats and all.
Ya ... that's real accurate reporting you guys do there.
You're the one who says it's scientific.
Oh, I'm sorry. I missed you last Sunday. My bad.Really? Who is advocating that? Or is this just bearing false witness (again)?
Ya ... there's a term for that: Throwing the baby out with the bathwater. That's called separation of church and state. The Qur'an is kept out of the school for the same reason, and I am sure you are glad for that.
For good reasons that you can't understand too.Similarly, you thumb your nose at the Qur'an, at basic Islamic doctrine, at Islamic speculation...
There went your parallel ... big time.... then you sit and expect us to accept your interpretations of the Bible to your satisfaction.
Whatever.P.S.: you can replace Islamic references with the religion of your liking.
Sadly for theocrats, secular morality has superceded that of the bible and we've outlawed such heinous practices here in the US.
By whom? What entitles them to that land?
The Bible doesn't entitle the Jews to that land. When you write a book, put that "covenant" in there and then point to it as proof that you own land that's a bit self-serving.It's called the Abrahamic Covenant.
And let's keep this past-tense, okay?
I notice you said 'entitles;' where I'm specifically talking about the Exodus coming to an end in Moses' time, and Joshua superseding him.
Let's not be in a rush to jump to 1948, okay?

And by "you" I mean creationists. See, "discovery institute" for example. Or the Creation Museum and our old friend Ken Hamm.I beg your pardon?
That's twice now I've been accused of saying that, within a few days.
Aren't I the one on record here as saying -- many times -- that using the Bible as a science book is like trying to use Bill Gate's diary as a computer manual?
Or are you someone using Phred's logon?

Interesting, but thats not what God states.
Gen. 6:6 "And the Lord was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart."
7 "...I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth, both man and beast, creeping thing and birds of the air, for I am sorry that I have made them."
11 "The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence."
13 "...the end of all flesh has come before Me, for the earth is filled with violence through them; and behold, I will destroy them with the earth."
17 "...I Myself am bringing floodwaters on the earth, to destroy from under heaven all flesh in which is the breath of life; everything that is on the earth shall die."
7:19 "...the waters prevailed exceedingly on the earth, and all the high hills under the whole heaven were covered."
20 "The waters prevailed 15 cubits upward (1 cubit = 18"), and the mountains were covered.
21 "...all flesh died that moved on the earth: birds and cattle and beasts and every creeping thing that creeps on the earth, and every man."
22 "All in whose nostrils was the breath of the spirit of life, all that was on the dry land, died."
