I think this goes deeper than musical tastes... why would other people's music be just fine but your music, for some reason, would make people puke? Why is your music not as good as theirs?thenewageriseth said:It's just that I feel alone, although I met this girl named Ashley, and she doesn't care for R&B either...So I'm thinking that's cool. Really, though...I said that because everytime I go to a function I really am forced to listen to that garbage and I am afraid if I put on some of my music, ppl will literally puke...and so...I'm afraid that if I put on a Double CD some ppl will object...I will look at the site...
Yep, which is why I referred to www.hado.net, Dr. Emoto's research website. I'm glad you know about this too.Lucasinvictus said:... lots of sounds heal..not just frilly new age trance music.... and this has been studied at length... its called cymatics... also.. directed intent heals... look into masuru emoto's water crystal research... fascinating stuff....

I agree with you on some points here. Companies have taken the spiritual and have capitalized on it to the point that it cheapens everything. Look at how yoga, for example, has become so mainstream--virtually every bookstore these days carries yoga DVDs, yoga music, yoga mats, etc etc.... Bear in mind, however, that this doesn't happen only in New Age circles; I went to visit a large basilica in Montreal last week and we visited the "gift shop". I left after a few minutes simply feeling disgusted--everything from hot pink and baby blue Catholic figurines to Inuit nativity sets. That's what I call $pirituality. These things, however, are there for a purpose, just like some people try to sell $30 crystals. You may find it ridiculous to buy expensive crystals, but you won't think twice when buying Tommy Hilfiger jeans when the crystal buyers will be just as happy with regular jeans.psychedelicist said:I'm getting so tired of this new age bull. All it is is a bunch of the easiest eastern philosophies to understand, mixed with idiotic consumerism (Buy this crystal for $30 dollars! Guaranteed to help you... do whatever the hell it is they do with those crystals). I dunno, maybe it's just the newagers I've met nut it's just a bit too watered down and "feel good" for my tastes. I'm also tired of their little slogans, "We are all one", "All is as it should be", ad nauseum.
But maybe it's just me.

Everything has a purpose.
Ok, it was an example--hope you got the message nonetheless.psychedelicist said:Too true. Except for the Tomy Hilfiger part. Most of my clothes are just plain shirts and jeans from WalMart or something.

"New Age" has become a catch-all phrase, hence meaning very little these days. To the extent it maintains any real cohesion as a label for a movement, it refers to aspects of Eastern religions that were adopted and westernized starting in the 60s.
