I was watching a video recently about Nephilim and one of the speakers said something interesting. He said that he believed the "sons of God" were the descendants of Seth, who remained close to God and retained more physical superiority because of it. They saw that the "daughters of men", Cain's descendants were "fair" and married them. Mixing with them, you ended up with much more culturally decadent people who had the more pure genes of Seth's descendants.

I thought it was interesting and wondered if there are any Orthodox teachings on this.

I don't think He is orthodox, but a Pastor named Chuck Missler goes all through the Genesis 6 passages and thoroughly debunks the Sethite view. He has zillions of vid's on YouTube.

If the Sethites were so holy then why did they perish in the flood?
Besides, I don't think it was until Genesis 11 (?) that the edict to not marry the caananites came down. The flood was before that.

Fallen Angels created the Nephilim with our women. That makes me mad on one level.

The Nephilim were procreated by the sexual union of fallen angels with human women. You don't even need to read the Book of Enoch for this, just Genesis and numerous archeological and historical evidence as confirmation. The Sethite view only exists because most Christians believe angels are sexless ghosts, and therefore incapable of procreation. Even though the Bible never says that angels are sexless, that's just an assumption that comes from gnostic heresies.

this is not what the Orthodox Church teaches. angels can’t procreate because they don’t have our fallen, material bodies. Gnosticism has nothing to do with it.

Who says that angels don't have material bodies? The Bible doesn't, on the contrary Ezekiel 10:12 says that angels DO have flesh. And why did you write "fallen material bodies" as if having a material body was inherently bad? The Bible teaches a physical resurrection of the flesh, not discarding the material body for something alien and ethereal.

for starters, the Ezekiel reference doesn’t say they have material bodies. and I never denied the physical Resurrection of all flesh. I never said it was discarded.

I don’t remember off the top of my head, but a lot of Lord of Spirits podcast episodes deal with this.
ha! "a" podcast they tease it so much for the first few episodes until they actually did the podcast....which was worth the wait and incredibly fascinating. Great recommendation as a podcast in general. I think it is the one titled "A Land of Giants" November 26 2020.

yeah, it’s in other episodes too. I think that one about giants was the first where they delved into it.

Whatever the story of the Nephilim may be, I believe in a general sense that there is a basic truth that a part of humanity was altered. This seems to be happening again ( Ecclesiastes 1:9-11) in different ways but probably in a same spirit of rebellion against our created forms ( Genesis 1:26-27).

I think the podcast says they were people who were demonically influenced because sex magic was done at their conception.
Father, can you elaborate?
