I know this sounds dumb but, whats the best book to start off with? i heard its better to start off in the New Testament.. thanks for the help..

CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

i'm not very good at this but i've heard John is good to start with, and that makes sense...it's the last of the gospels, then you just move forward into the other stuff

John is a great start!!!! I would also recommend Luke. If you are wanting something to really study hard and make you think...Romans is always a great one.

I started with John and then Luke... Now I read a chapter or 2 of Acts, a chapter from the Epistles depending on what I feel God wants me to brush up on, and whatever verse I get in my 'daily Bible reading' email.
But to start I like John, just because it focuses on Christ's divinity.

In a good number of Bibles, there is a reading plan. It will take you through the Bible in 1 year. It jumps you around from the OT to the NT each day/week. That way you can see how Jesus fullfilled th OT.
If you just want to get started and not follow a reading plan start with the NT, read the Gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke, John. I have found Romans to be very inspiring and helpful.
One other idea is to read 1 Proverb each day. There are 31 Proverbs so you can read 1 each day according to the date. Follow? Today is the 9th so read Proverbs 9.

That's a good question. John is a good place to start in.
I'd start with Matthew because the sermon on the mount is a very good read. Mark and Luke contain very similar info so you can skip them and go to John. I'd go in order from there. Mark and Luke are cool, but on your first time through the redundancy can get tedious. Reading and knowing the bible will pay off in ways you can't imagine.

You can start with a prayer session! True but a little tongue in cheek....
For starters I would follow the preachers tal on Sunday and write down the scriptures quoted and read - and read these during the week - this will re-enforce what the preacher admonishes - after a while of doing this your hunger will lead you.....
