  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Need guidance down the right road.

I was just seeking some advice from everyone. I know people say that people come looking for god when they're at their lowest,u could say im there but have been here a few too many times before. I guess you could say thats maybe why i strayed away. just feeling alone and without any belief in the bible or the lord feling self pity and drinking it away. The relationships that have messed me up and the other events. i have a good family that cares for me and they told me to look towards the lord and ask for help but i kept on straying away. The drinking has led me to police troubles and losing friends and just feeling like im sinking into a deeper hole more and more. I just want some prayers and if anyone could tell what sciptures to look to for these hard times ahead of me. i really need some guidance and strength and where to look to to find this. thank you all for any advice and help me pray that whatever the outcome may be i can find help in my familyand the lord to find inner strength and help me get through it all.

diego, I want to let you know that God loves you despite how you feel and it doesn't matter how many times you go to Him because you are going to the right person. 1John 1:9 "If we confess our sins unto Him, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from "ALL" unrighteousness."
See this website so that you know what God thinks about you:
Father's Love Letter Text

Matt 6:33, "But seek ye first the Kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you."

Do you read your Bible? Do you pray? If not, then your are starving yourself. If we don't feed our body we starve, if we don't feed our spirit we starve.

I want to encourage you to seek out a Bible believing church and to hang around Christians (not everyone is perfect) because that'll give you strength.

As for drinking, here is your answer:
John 7:37
"In the last day, that great [day] of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink."
John 7:38
"He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water."

John 4:14
"But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life."

So you must believe that He exists and you must come to Him and it is His promise that you should have rivers of living water.
Every promise of God is YES and AMEN in Christ Jesus. (2 Cor 1:20) You can take it to the bank.
Remember, God wants you in reality and out of bondage.

Jeremiah 32:27
Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh. Is there anything too hard for Me?

I John 5:14-15
"Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him."

Philippians 4:6-7
"Don't worry about anything, but in everything by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."

I John 3:8-9
"For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil."

Isaiah 26:3
"Thou wilt keep [him] in perfect peace, [whose] mind [is] stayed [on thee]: because he trusteth in thee."

Heavenly Father, we thank you for diego and we thank You that You hear us. Father, we ask that You would destroy the works of the devil against diego and we ask that You would send ministering angels (Heb 1:14) to minister to him. Father, fill him with Your living water and Your love and Your power as he seeks You. We pray for all of these things in The Mighty Name of Jesus!!! Amen!!!

Amen. Read that whole chapter Diego: Hebrews 1 - Passage Lookup - New Living Translation - BibleGateway.com

Hi Diego, I hear that you are suffering the effects of a sinful lifestyle particularly with a drinking problem. I can tell you as an ex-drunk I have been to the lowest depths of drinking, where I would drink more than a dozen stubbies after work every night. I know that as well as being a serious tax on the health of the body (not to mention the wallet!), it also has serious consequences from time-to-time regarding your relationships with others or even with society in general if you know what I mean. There have been so many times through my life I have woken with remorse for what had happened the night before, and while this remorse is a useful reason to deter yourself from the habit, it doesn't usually have enough strength for you to succeed.

Like any habit or addiction, it takes a period of abstinence before the cravings disappear. I know this is true for the addictions I have had: cigarettes (cravings for about 3 weeks), beer (cravings for about 1 week), and cannabis (cravings for about 6 weeks). Most of these addictions are psychological habits rather than physical dependencies. For instance, most drunks are not alcoholics. They won't shake when deprived of alcohol, they'll just get fidgety and anxious because they don't know how to occupy themselves otherwise. Nicotine is dispelled from the blood after 2 hours, and cannabis, not so sure. I think that addiction has some chemical dependency come to think of it, every time I've gone back to it after a period of abstinence, I've become hooked again immediately and even witnessed it in others who after having abstained for 15 years, one night partook with me. The next morning they wanted to buy some off me and I refused to sell it. Then lo and behold, a few weeks later they'd become quite anti-pot again! Such a strange thing is the subtle effects of marijuana!

So anyway, what I'm wanting to share with you is the particular way Jesus has rescued me from the alcohol addiction. I'd been addicted to beer for several years before my re-dedication earlier this year and when I came to know Jesus personally instantly my abusive use of alcohol subsided - literally overnight! I was still addicted, I would drink when I got home after work, but the speed which I drank instantly subsided. Then gradually over time as I became more complacent the amount I was drinking increased again from 6 stubbies to 12 or 15 after work.

One night I had got into an online conversation with a friend, and we had spoken about matters related to Christianity. When I went to bed that night, I woke in the night and went to get water. One bottle wasn't enough, I had to have two. The next morning I had the most intense feeling of regret - what did I say last night in a drunken stupor? Did I screw it up for my friend? (we have such a huge responsibility as a representative of Christ). That day I was in deep deep remorse and I knew Jesus was upset with me as He had instructed me not to go on the internet until I had got my life together again. So I heeded His warning and made the resolution to not drink again. This resolution was such that it came with the power of the Holy Spirit because it was the will of God that I had chosen to pursue. This is an important thing to remember, that without the Holy Spirit we have very little power over our own body. It's a common theme in Christianity that the body argues for pleasures and fulfillments of fleshly desires, while the spirit argues for fulfillments of spiritual pleasures. Sometimes the two are at odds, such as when drinking yourself to death. The body says "yeah it feels good to be drunk", and the spirit says "it's harmful to drink like that", and the spirit is right! God made this creation of which you and I are creatures because He loves it, He loves to marvel at it and delight as it flourishes and prospers. He doesn't like when it suffers, so when we decide to pursue a destructive activity, it is sinful - we are harming His beloved creation! Anyway, when I was allowed back on the internet I looked up our conversation and it wasn't bad at all! I think the Holy Spirit had certainly been in control that night ;)

So that's my personal testimony, and I haven't touched a drop of alcohol since, nor been tempted to, nor felt ashamed to say "no" at work functions. It's not spoken as though any sort of words are going to convince you of the true reason you need to put the spirit before the flesh, that will only happen through your relationship with Jesus and when you come to the point of submitting to His will, something you might have to learn through experience unfortunately. We humans are such a stubborn bunch that the simple act of God or anyone for that matter saying "thou shalt not" usually isn't enough for us to heed unless we have really understood the reason behind such advice and come to agree with it.

But do get stuck into your Bible and pray regularly, even every moment you get you should pray. I also wonder whether you've become formally Christian yet? By this I don't mean to be inducted into a church, I mean to pray the sinners prayer, ask Jesus into your life and be baptized by the Holy Spirit in the name of Jesus? This is the means by which God has appointed our adoption into His heavenly family, becoming the bride of Christ, bonded forever with God in the name of Christ His son.

Jas 4:10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.

1Co 1:9 God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord.

1Jo 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Do you have the holy spirit? He will give you the power to live a christian life. Human effort alone can't do this. Pray and you will get it. This will give you the inner strength to live the christian life.
Take one day at a time and get some inspirational friends that love God by their actions. Read the bible and pray daily. Get involved in a serious church. Its a life long lifestyle and you will know God more and more. True faith is demonstrated by actions than then the feelings will come. Feelings alone are like a roller coaster. Feel free to email me if have questions.

May God Bless you and your family. My advice is to bring your burdens to the foot of the cross and turn them over to Jesus to bare for you. Unfortunately, alcohol has claimed the peace of many, however it is a very good sign that you acknowledge you, like all humans, fall short and need to turn to God.

I suggest praying regularly to God the Father through his Son Jesus Christ. Acknowledge and believe that God sent his beloved Son Jesus to die for your sins and ask him for redemption and deliverance from your sin.

Pray earnestly seeking God and the door will be opened. "7“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 8For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened." - Matthew 7:7-8

"And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him." - Hebrews 11:6

I will keep you in my prayers.

Also, I hope this does not insult you, but I personally know multiple people who had their lives disrupted by alcoholism and had great results with AA. I would first take up your plight with the Great Physician and also seek help through AA.

May you turn from sin to God so that he may bless you and deliver you from alcoholism.
