I need help proving this fact to her. any knowledge you've been given by study please share.

The Bible is the written word of God not the "Word of God". Jesus is the Word.
The Bible being the written word of God is something which must be received through faith. It would be easy to prove that the Old Testament scripture was written by the Hebrews but not that it was inspired by God.

Jews believe, through faith, that the OT is inspired and Christians believe through faith that both the Old and New Testaments are inspired by God through faith. Without faith, scripture is little good to the person.

If you want to help her believe that scripture is the written word of God, then live by God's word and let the light of Jesus shine so that she may see the light.

I think everyone has a different standard of truth. For some, it is existence of the miracle and signs and wonder that makes things true. The proof then would be whether Jesus rose from the dead, whether his life and death and mission was the stuff of Old Testament prophecy.
Then, in terms of proof, there are the outside sources that note the life of death of Jesus, and the claims he made, and the plethora of eyewitnesses to the Risen Jesus who chose death and torture over retracting what they knew to be true.
It is an apostolic faith, based on the fact that people were willing to die to rather than deny the truth that Jesus conquered death, and two thousand years of previous Biblical prophecy reveals exactly what the life and death and rising of Jesus means.

For myself, the truth of Christianity lies in its inner meaning, and its ability to give an understanding of human nature, or who we are, and how the gospel has been able to answer those questions. There is the understanding that the world was created, that it did not just spring up from nothing, but intelligence and order are the essence of the world we live in, and love is the highest truth imaginable in the vast expanse of the universe.

Faith itself is the attitude that makes human life possible. Christianity lays out a framework for that faith.

In regards to the Old Testament, archeological evidence has confirmed many of the stories found there. A problem occurred at first due to archeologists having the wrong date for the Exodus. A self-proclaimed egyptologist had viewed the statues of Ramesses II (Ramesses the Great) and promptly stated as fact that he must have been the pharaoh of the Exodus. But when an egyptologist who could actually read heiroglyphics translated a gigantic 'wall of conquest' which Ramesses II had ordered, he found there the besieging of Jerusalem and the demanding and receiving of tribute. This put the time of Ramesses the Great as coinciding with the time of King Rehoboam, Solomon's son, about 250 years after the time of Moses. Also, the name 'Shishak', which was thought to be a misspelling of 'Shishank', turned out to be a hebrew pseudonym meaning 'destroyer of cities' rather than a proper name.

As for the New Testament, some scholars have tried to say that it was all written decades after Jesus Christ was among us. But that is their opinion, and not to be confused with evidence. The evidence that we have indicates that the three synoptic gospels (Matthew, Mark and Luke) were all completed prior to 62 AD, as was the book of Acts. The Gospel of St. John was written very shortly after that, but before the destruction of Jerusalem, since it lists areas as still intact which were destroyed in 70 AD. All of Peter's and Paul's epistles were completed prior to its destruction, as well, since the apostles were both martyred duing the reign of Nero, who committed suicide in 68 AD.

And what does an early dating mean? Those who have studied mythology state that it takes at least three generations for a mythology to begin to appear after incidents have occurred. So the documents written within that timeframe can be relied on to be as historically accurate as their authors can make them. By having the gospels and epistles written within such a short timespan of the events, the need to list those events accurately would have been seen as important, since many of the witnesses to the happenings would have been still alive, and therefore able to challenge anyone who took artistic license.

IMO, Christians who find themselves in this position need to acknowledge right away that we DO NOT know that the Bible is the Word of God. The most that can be done is to present all the evidence (mentioned elsewhere in this thread) and say that it shows, as close as we can do it, that the Bible is most likely the Word of God. Then we compare that with all the other matters in life which we treat as proven truth but for which we do not actually have conclusive, absolute evidence: the age of the world, the cause of human conception, if a tree falls in the forest, etc. We, all of us, take most of what we experience in life as certain, even when we do not have absolute evidence for it. The most we can do is deal in probabilities and, if so, the Bible holds up remarkably well, especially since it's the most closely criticised book ever written.

This was my final objection before I became a believer, too. D. James Kennedy had a series of messages on why we can believe the Bible, and it went a long way towards helping me accept the Bible as truth. He has a video out called The Bible: Fable, Fraud or Fact? that is probably the same message.

Compare this with other religions. They teach that the earth is being held up by Atlas, by serpants, turtles, elephants, etc. But science has shown that the earth hangs on nothing, nothing at all.

Not to long ago, men had figured there were a few more then 1000 stars in the sky, I believe it was about 1850, + or -. But God said,

Gen.21:17, Genesis written about 3500 years ago, God tells Abraham that he would multiply his seed as the stars of heaven." Well that would be a far greater number than man had counted, in 1850 A.D., about 1000. So if we include Christians, and Jews as the seed of Abraham, there has to be maybe 2 Billion of them alive today, and still counting.

The creation is my favorite. Very recent science tell us that at one time the earth was one landmass, surrounded by waters. God tells us that the earth was one landmass 3500 years ago. Gen.1:9.

Science has proven each species is of its own kind, meaning dogs don't produce cats, and cows don't produce horses. God told us this 3500 years ago in Genesis.

Each step in creation, heavens, earth, water, land, grass, herbs fruit trees, sea life, birds, animals, insects, then man. Moses was a desert person, not a scientist. He knew nothing about the oceans, or the heavens. It was God who revealed these very exact steps of creation, that science has now verified.

Science claims there are other creatures living outside this earth on other planets. God told us about them thousands of years ago. Aliens living outside this world. He calls them angels, Seraphim, and many other types of living creatures, including the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

2000 years ago John tell us there will be events that happen in this world, and that every living person will see them happening as they occur. Thank you T.V. and satellites. Now, every man can see what is happening as it is happening.

Well I am sure many of the people on this forum can add other things that prove beyond a doubt there is a God, and that this Bible is His written record of the past, present, and future, and that it is exact in its every word.

I think that you need to address the attitude. It's not that we have to believe anything, but even on Science we can't escape the need of trust. Yes, you could theorically repeat every experiment in history but you'd run out of money and time, even supposing you could learn every field of science. Yes, we need information to make an informed decision, if you pardon the pun, but finally we have to settle for something, else we spend our life in idleness

I'm not sure what argument you can create to help her realize that "you can know something is true" if in her head she believes that you can't really know the truth. You almost have to create a situation where the truth is absolutely needed. But if I were you, I wouldn't try and argue with her on that.

I think some people trust the word of other people rather than hearing it directly from the Lord. So she may like to know that we have witnesses to the Lord's activities and teachings. These witnesses wrote testimonials which we call the gospels and the apostolic letters. Before them, we have the minor and major prophets, each book written by a different eye-witness. Of course all these testimonials have a common thread.

I believe her strongest point is in the question of "how do we know that the books that were keep to comprise the Canon are indeed the right ones?" and to the ones that were thrown out, do they have any signifacance?

Does Faith really have anything to do with accepting the truth of scripture? if something is true then its just true. you shouldn't need faith to prove facts, for faith comes when there is no evidence of the argument. right?

It's right that faith and believing scripture are two different things. Yes, it's entirely possible to believe scripture and not have faith because faith is a gift. However, I don't think you can say that faith comes when there is no evidence. Faith comes by hearing the word of God, not independent of it.
