  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Kinda reminds me of Tiananmen Square~what are your thoughts on the Iranian rebellion?

Neda, young girl brutally killed in Iran, becoming symbol of rebellion

The only reason I am posting here is because of how strongly I support it. I have friends from Tehran that fled to Malaysia recently because of fears of being attacked after their dad was but they are on a mass information spreading campaign on facebook, twitter, digg etc. to inform people on the disaster. Several world-wide protests are being arranged to make even more people see (and maybe governments, but that's unlikely) what is happening and we are trying to push for the democratic reform of Iran. I seen the video of Neda being gunned down and it was very disturbing amongst the dozens of other videos I have uploaded across the net from my friend Atbin. We see the possibility for change, if not now then eventually.

The impression from the press had been that all was peaceful over there-guess the "election" changed that.

Right...and it's GOOD that Amadinijhad and BHO are BFFs...

Generally...people subjugated and oppressed for decades by tyranical dictators are peaceful....and very, very quiet.

Our current Prez...IMO.... has a very unrealistic worldview...period....

...freedom is never free...

...and heaven forbid....THE world power ever lift a finger to forward democracy in other parts of the world.

Please pardon this much used quote...but Edmund Burke is quite correct...

~ all it takes for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing

....I guess operatively...we have to have some good men first...

I have a question....

which do you consider is the more evident....that the Gospel is soon to follow where democracy abounds....or that democracy follows where the Gospel abounds?

Well, I think the situation for Iran is dire. Obviously it would be better for the people to have their voice recognized, and to have justice. However, as long as they are ruled by the supreme religious leader, its not going to matter too much who they elect. If they really want freedom they would have to over throw the 'revolutionary' government.

Regarding the world's response... it just shows you what people really care about and believe, where their passion truly is, or isn't.
If you were in a position where you could exercise influence on a situation like this and you didn't, even though a corrupt government is brutally supressing its own citizens, then I'd have to say you lose all credability as a person who cares about justice and freedom, or human rights for that matter.

Of course as the opening post calls to mind, this is what our government has been doing for years with China. Turning a blind eye to their many abuses because it is economically expedient for us to do so.

P.S. I truly hope that the Iranian despots have ample cause in coming days to rue bitterly the murder of Neda, the Angel of Freedom.

exactly what kind of ruler is Ahmadinejad? :| (of course I know he's a dictator but can someone give me some examples of what his regime is like?)

does he really believe in the genocide of Jews? (that's not all I'm asking of him though)

he was elected, but the political system is set up so only people who are approved of by the religious leaders can run
this time he stole the election

Yes....that was the protest...that the election was fixed...

Iran reform leader says he won't end his challenge - Yahoo! News

...and just because someone is "elected" doesn't always mean there is freedom and democracy for the people. They basically have an "elected" dictator.

Maybe Amadinijhad doesn't want to be BFFs with BHO...anymore....how dare he say the treatment of the Iranian people is bad.

Amadinijhad is mad at everyone at the mo....and I loved the UN's response....we're not trying to get involved....we're just saying we don't want anyone to get hurt...

there are people out there who support him being in power and who support him having the right to a nuclear weapon:doh::mad:

they think that if someone else has one, they have the right to have one too:sigh:

Why not? I mean for one nation to say another nation isn't allowed to do as they do would seem to be arrogance? And what would be the natural response to this?

Now, perhaps if there was a global world federation that was going to rule on these matters and enforce their rulings with military force would that be better? See where this leads?

Can't we even have a thread on Middle Eastern politics without it turning into an Obama-bashing thread? Sheesh.

No, because of the man's kowtowing and backpedaling and apologies. The whole world knows we've got a milktoast as a president right now and they're gonna take full advantage of that.
