  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Been months now without a job. Ran out of unemployment insurance 4 weeks ago and am totally broke. Christmas coming up and with 3 small children, i'm already depressed about it. I've prayed and prayed, we've had people praying for us locally and througout the internet but nothing is happening... things just getting worse. We will have to cut out AOL soon due to lack of paying them for past two months. Gotta sell the computer soon anyway so I guess we won't miss it too much. Got house out of forcloure last time but we can do nothing this time. Don't know how to tell the children or what to tell them. We don't know where to go or what to do. Our church has seemed to turn their back to us. It (our church) is a very 'rich' church but will help no one when it comes to money. I've seen it happen many times, but they have an excellent childrens program thus we have stuck with them but thats another story. I have even discussed with my pastor some of the thoughts I have had lately and his remark was 'well, thats just plain stupid... do it and you will go to hell'. That was 4 weeks ago and he has had no contact with me at all since then. I know as a past alcohol and drug abuse counselor that if anyone talks of this to keep in contact with them to see how they are doing. Heck, I may have been crying out for help... I don't know. I don't seem to know much at all anymore.
Anyway, I am tired of praying (and asking people to pray) for something good to happen to us financially and am just asking now to please, please pray for my children.

Barlowe, I will pray for your children and for you also, that the Lord may bless you and give you what you need to get out of this awful depression you are in.
I don't know the system in US, but is there anyone else you can turn to who will help with your depression? A doctor or something like that? I will pray for you all.

Lord, rescue this family. You are amazing, Lord, at bringing things when we think it is too late to cover our needs. Make a way for this mom and build her faith and life. Help her to be financially stable and supply all their needs.

Give them an extra blessed Christmas wiht nice presents and food and multiplied heart felt happiness. Amen

Belive me I know what your going through...

I have a 5yo and a 2yo. Last Christmas, I had lifted a patient at work when they went limp on me. That was almost 250lbs that pulled directly to the floor. I got a hernia and was out of work from nov 2003 until early feb 2004 while I was waiting on my surgery (the insurance company didn't feel that me being out of work during Christmas was a big deal.) I was living off savings and running out fast. I tried to ask our church for help, but they were a mega-church that was more interested in the bottom line than the children. I give my 10 percent tithing every sunday, but they couldn't spring for a few toys. I was, needless to say, a little upset. I contacted the salvation army and the toys for tots people. They blessed my kids with a great Christmas last year. This year, I will donate a little something...in thanks for their display of Christianity. And every year from now on too!

Contact the US Marine Corps (reserve) recruiter office near you (they conduct toys for tots) and the salvation army as early as possible. They will see to it that it is a merry Christmas this year.

I will continue to pray that your situation improves. If I can be any more asstiance...feel free to IM or PM me anytime. I will help any way I can.

Thank you all for your prayers and thoughts. It means a lot!

As far as me looking for work, I have been daily. I have applied at every fast food place, every supermarket, every little store up and down main street and have even gone door to door looking for anything I may be able to do. I have been able to rake a few yards but thats it. We live in a very rural area and since I had to turn my car in several weeks ago, it's really hard to get out and look any further than a few miles.

I will keep trying however and i'll keep y'all informed if anything happens.

I hope you can find it in yourself to find another church. My church, and many others sponser giving trees about 4 times a year. It's wonderful to be able to sponser a family in need at Christmas time. When I was a single mom, I was the family the church gave to! It was humbling and wonderful. You should have a pastor that is more sympathetic and good at counseling for you. You deserve that. Other churches do great things for children too. Give them a chance.

I will pray that God will direct you the way you should go and give you an answer soon.
