NASCAR bans Confederate flags at all races, events
On Monday, the only full-time African American driver in NASCAR's Cup Series called for the auto racing body to ban Confederate flags from its events. Two days later, his dream came true.

"The presence of the Confederate flag at NASCAR events runs contrary to our commitment to providing a welcoming and inclusive environment for all fans, our competitors and our industry," NASCAR said in a statement on its website hours ahead of its race Wednesday night in Martinsville, Virginia.

"Bringing people together around a love for racing and the community that it creates is what makes our fans and sport special. The display of the Confederate flag will be prohibited from all NASCAR events and properties."

\o/! It’s about time but still a move in the right direction.

Also the last couple of races I watched had a moment of silence for Floyd and a young black man who looked to be in his teen years sang the National Anthem remotely.

We’ll that’s gonna upset about 90% of their fan base.

As long as all the black NASCAR drivers, pit crews, car owners, and fans are happy, it is a win for everyone!

Jeepers creepers! They have already taken basketball, football, baseball, tennis and golf from us, must they take the last spot that white people are good at as well? Where will it stop? Hockey? Curling? Bobsledding?

“Don’t worry, they’ll still wave your flag when there’s one lap to go.”

“Why are you surprised? NASCAR always moves to the left.”

I wonder if all Confederate Battle flags will be banned or just poor old Tennessee? Personally I wouldn't even recognize the others and until I looked it up didn't know they existed.

I grew up in Tennessee, moved to Georgia and stayed just short of twenty years and now I'm back in Tennessee.
I knew most of those flags.

Changing Georgia's state flag was a big deal when I lived there. It used to have the familiar blue X confederate emblem as part of it. The push was made to change it. They did. It's now exactly the first one (top, left corner) with the exception that it has the state seal sitting inside the circle of (13) stars in the blue field.
The old-time, deep south, racists are laughing themselves silly over the fact that they merely changed one racist emblem for another and most are none the wiser.

I saw on the news that one NASCAR driver is on board with BlackLivesMatter.

It's interesting when you remember that stock car racing began with bootleggers running moonshine -- running from the cops, that is.

NASCAR's very origins are rooted in the very "[censored] the police!" mentality that people like to accuse BLM of.

Stock car and back road speed has always been rooted in getting around the LEO.

My grandfather said that the revenooers crossed the Angelina River into Nacogdoches County, that rural landscape became fairylike with still lamps under bush it seemed. Local lawmen like Jack Spradly, an otherwise great cop, was on the take from one group of bootleggers while busting the ones who were not paying him off.

New Bubba Wallace fan here. Not too familiar with NASCAR. When I saw him on TV before the race, I thought "Bubba" where's your confederate flag? Now I know.:) But giving himself the name Bubba, a brilliant marketing move.
