Here are a few things that might help you find some ideas:

Choose a Shakespearean play and rewrite it.
List your favourite fairy tales and choose one to flesh out into a novel, and add details from as many others as you can.
Take something that really happened to you and make it the climax of your book.

Etc.

I tried writing a story once centred around a scene I witnessed from a bus. I didn't hear any of what the people were saying, but developing characters and coming up with a reason for what I'd seen was a great exercise.

lol! that's okay, that's half the fun. i have a basic idea. have thought about it, and then changed it slightly, thought about it some more and just might change it slightly again. i'm trying to make it so that i can actually make it to 50k without writing junk... for the most part that it. who knows, it might suddenly take a side trip to ancient greece and meet plato or someone. anything could happen and it's my novel so i can do what i want!

My idea is from a fairy tale or five. I'm kind of excited about it.

I've been plotting it, and just started naming the characters. Next will come quick character sketches, and then I'll start plotting it with details - I like to make an outline that lists each scene. That way I can write the scene that appeals most that day without having to worry about something not quite matching up with what went before (though it'll happen - but that kind of editing is what December is for!).

Man, 50,000 words in 30 days is almost 2,000 words a day. That's... 8 typed, double-spaced pages a day.

Can we do that?!?!?!?

to be exact it's about 1,666.6 repeated words a day. rounded up 1,667 words a day. i believe that would be about 3 pages a day(single spaced). yep, did the math, thought about it and have decided that it is possible.

I'm going to shoot for an even 2,000 words daily. It should be an interesting challenge working with the already-existing universe of Christia, though, especially trying to flesh out certain areas and whatnot. *cough* Anserak! *cough*

well actually I do kinda have a few ideas, but theyre basically just characters, i havent developed them very far...

I'm kinda going to do that, I'm going to choose a poem and start each chapter with a verse, and try and fit the chapter to that verse.

ok, that's me. I came across a thread there about using the chinese horoscope to flush out characters.

i was thinking of putting quotes in.. so, the beginning of the quote is placed at the beginning of the chapter, then the whole quote is placed at the end of the chapter. Would that be too disjointed?

I dunno... if I get really bored and need some word count then Kelton will probably launch into a whole big lecture about the history of tea in Ithriya. And then try making a plot point out of it!

Which begs the question: where would they get the irrigation to grow the tea in Anserak, anyway? Maybe they make it from assorted weird desert plants. Hehehe... Orcish tea!

I'm picturing some kind of big tea feud between him and Isliel... hehehe, Elen moderating a dispute between them about the origin of some obscure strain of tea leaf. That could be a funny scene to write...

yeah, definitely some kind of desert plant, or maybe they have a 'greenhouse' if there's a plant loving mage around or something.

i've got it down, man! i can't wait. i'm actually looking forward to this. i've got my four main characters named and i'm working on their histories/background info and such. i've also got the basic plot and major events listed (don't have how they're going to happen or when they're going to happen just that they're going to happen... ya know?)
