Anyone else thinking of participating in NaNoWriMo? (National Novel Writing Month, for those who don't know, the object being to crank out a 50,000 word novel in the 30 days of November.) I think I might do it... anyone else going to?

Well...I've signed up for it. And I've been shuffling a few plots around in my head, and there's one that I've had cooking for a few years that I might use.

That's as far as it's gone. So far.

Okay, so, I decided that I have to write a minimum of 2,000 words every day because I'm going to be away for four days at the beginning of November. I'm going to Cursillo, and I definitely won't be writing my NaNoWriMo book while I'm there!

It's actually less than 2,000 words for the exact equation, but if I make it a minimum of 2,000 words a day, that's 8 pages per day and, hence, probably will be one chapter a day, which works for me!

i'm just wondering, how far do you guys plan before you write in Nov? isn't it kind of impossible to plan a piece?

I have a pretty good idea of where it's going (after all, it's somehow supposed to lead up to what's going on in ToT now, especially Tendra's investigations ) but no clue how to get there... FUN!

I don't really have a lot figured out. I know the main plot points and that's about it.

Some people really plan their writing, and I've done so in the past. Thought I'd do it again, but it's hard to do without starting to write some of the scenes. So... I'm just going to start and the beginning and see where the characters take me (which is how I usually write stories).

I'll be (probably) doing NaNoWriMo this year, but we'll have to see what happens. I'm kind of busy this november, what with trying to graduate from university and all that. I'll be doing (if I do it) a humourous science fiction novel.

I did it last year as well, got 56000 words done on a cyberpunk novel, that is in serious need of rewriting...

yeah, you're right, Kara. Writing something up ought to bring something to mind as compared to planning with more than half a mind blank.

lol, owl. At times, i wonder which one is better. To have an ending and beginning? or beginning, bits of middle, and no ending (yet).

I'm really good at thinking up starts my ending always changes anyway when I plan it at the start, so there's really no point for me.

My characters surprise me all the time... They're such little pains in the butt when they do it, though, LOL.

i agree. my characters get attitudes all the time. they're constantly changing their minds and refusing to do what i tell them to.

I wrote a story over 70,000 words in a period of less than two weeks (one of which finals was going on through) completely off the cuff. I guess that's not normal? Is that prolific? I guess so! Cool! I'm a prolific writer! (Haha, yeah right.) It seemed really short for a novel though. Oh well, whatever floats your boat. Does it have to be a complete novel, as in start at the beginning of the story and end at the end? What if we just have a segment of a story we wrote during November that was 50,000 words? Hey, if I could pull a stunt like that other story, I might as well do it. (Then again, I don't think I slept during that amount of time...)

nah, it can be anything.. from a complete novel to the beginning/middle of one.
so long as you squeeze out 50,000 words. Looks like that would not be a problem for you though, Vulgivagus.
