  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I gave up. :( Even if I did do nothing but write crazy amounts for the rest of the time, I don't think its feesable that I'll make it. Besides, I think that if I do just push on, everything I write will just be trash, and I'm not willing to kill this idea for a silly Internet competition. Maybe I'll prepare myself better next year. ;)

3 viewpoints... i think...

cool! i love writing from different viewpoints, but that's because it kind of breaches my writer's block. Write something new, always works. But leaves too many threads around.

uh, Vulgivagus. I suppose it works different for different people. Some people are so happy that they managed to get 50,000 words done, like, half of novel in a month when it usually takes them a year or something. Although i didn't participate this year, i found out that i could actually get that many words in if i put my mind to it. And that having to edit later is actually easier in that i've something solid to work on (and can change it whichever way i want later).

Anyhow..

Well, guess what... I made 50K! 35K was within the past 24 hours... OW. THAT. HURTS.

I pretty much completely stuffed it with writing sequentially and just skipped around and did scenes; once I cut out all the tangental fluff I'll probably have 35K to work with. I will resume posting chapters once I can fix some horrible spelling errors brought about by really tired fingers and connect the pieces together. The chapters will probably keep trickling out during December and January as I revise and whatnot... pounding out 35K in one day tends to really mess up the quality. ;)

I did get some great moments in there, though... I ended up showing Isliel's evil side, and man, did that turn out scary. And I really did start liking Elen as a character. :D

Way to go, Lady_Firehawk!!!

And isn't it awesome when you begin to like a character that you originally didn't like? Or found annoying? That's happened with me in Nano... of course... now me liking this character is only causing a little conflict within the writing of the story because that character is set to die.

I didn't finish, so no winning for me tonight. But that's okay - there's always next year!

As for characters dying... I once killed my main character's boyfriend, partly because he couldn't be in the picture later on in the story, partly because it gave me lots of great characterization opportunities, partly because of the story that came from it, and partly because I'm evil and like to do things just to bother my readers. His death has never bothered me, but everyone who's read that story has been quite sad/upset that he died!

Woooop! I finished! Um... My plot actually changed which shortened the word count from around about 120k (which I thought it would be) to 86924. My first novel! DONE! AAAAAAH! I have something completed!

Except now I have to go back and rewrite the thing because of the plot change so close to the end. So, it may be more... may be less... But one character I'm erasing completely. So.... blah.

I must finish at least a DECENT rewrite, revise, and edit before January the 15th (Probably will get my mom to look over it also once the plot is in line) so I can get my free book from Lulu. Check it out, all you NaNo winners! :)

http://www.lulu.com/static/nanowrimo.php

PS: I soooooooo left the door open for there to be a sequel in my rushed ending (which once it's all fleshed out should give me more words). I'll make it a little more complete in the revision, rewrite, and edit. Or in the R.E.R. :)
