(I would have thought Talitha.)
8th Day after the birth the priest does the naming prayers
Usually at the same time as the baptism. Also Father Matt, do they still do/teach the hair cutting at Baptism? I have seen it done, but not always. Some Priests burn it while others give it back inside candlewax.
Yep, Vladimir is another one that jumps to mind.Every name is a potential Christian name. Apollos (and so many others) were purely pagan names, which became Christianized by the saintly lives of people carrying them.

baptism is at 40 days, not 8. and yes, Baptism should come with the tonsure. it's part of the service.
I have seen it all done at the same time, many many times.
according to the books I have, what I was taught, and what I have seen, naming prayers are to be done on the 8th day, baptism on the 40th.
Totally understand that, just saying I have seen it all done at one time during baptisms I have attended.
I never thought of it as cool, imagine having the name of God and Savior Jesus ChristI agree. The exotic names usually go to monks, it seems. When I first became Orthodox I wanted to name my kid a Greek name, but as time went on we discovered the value of simplicity in names. It wouldn’t seem culturally relevant in America to name a kid Panyiotis or Haralambos Smith.
Cool thing about Hispanics is that they can name their boys Jesus. I’ve never heard of a non-Hispanic with the Name.
I have way too much trouble living up to the name of my Saint. I do get a lot of extra feast days though, so I can't complainI never thought of it as cool, imagine having the name of God and Savior Jesus Christ
