• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Demonstrate your knowledge of Poe's Law by placing a winking smiley next to the statements that are not considered basic doctrine today by mainstream Christianity:

  1. world-wide flood ;)
  2. flat earth;)
  3. no death before the Fall ;)
  4. burning bush
  5. Jonah and the whale
  6. Daniel in the Lion's Den
  7. Elijah outrunning Ahab's chariot
  8. dispensation theology ;)
  9. resurrection from the dead
  10. covenant theology
  11. creatio ex nihilo
  12. geocentrism ;)
Remember -- if you have to ask for clarification, you fail.

I refuse to participate in this "challenge" because I do not acknowledge a man who thinks waters from the Great Flood were sent to Neptune as a warning for visiting would-be rogue angels to be any kind of authority on "basic theology of mainstream Christianity."

As a literature professor, if I told you that Hamlet was written by Frank Stallone and based on the Crimean War, would you take any test I wrote?

A man wants to make a laughingstock of himself; it'd be rude not to point and laugh.

Well, I would have to say these threads are truly entertaining! I have never meet anyone like AV in all life, and I don't think I will come across anyone like him ever again in my life.

I think you probably have several times, it's just that in person, they don't have to mask of the internet to hide the face of foolishness.

No, you refuse to participate because you don't recognize basic doctrines when you see them.

Because, in my opinion, I'm easy to ridicule -- the "weakest link", so so speak -- and those who have it in for God and/or His Church like to use my posts as a stepping-stone.

I've met people who have lost a loved one; or had a spouse that got saved and is no longer going to the same places and doing the same things as before; or who have outright been cheated by a [professing] Christian -- and you know what?

They sound just like you guys.

Couldn't do it without you, AV -- you're a credit to Atheists and skeptics everywhere.

Which makes you what -- the cause of the loss? The cheater? The charlatan?

As the Roman Catholic Church is the biggest denomination, I consider their viewpoint as mainstream.

Demonstrate your knowledge of Poe's Law by placing a winking smiley next to the statements that are not considered basic doctrine today by mainstream Christianity:

  1. world-wide flood ;) :amen:
  2. flat earth ;)
  3. no death before the Fall ;) :amen:
  4. burning bush ;) :amen:
  5. Jonah and the whale ;)
  6. Daniel in the Lion's Den ;)
  7. Elijah outrunning Ahab's chariot ;)
  8. dispensation theology ;)
  9. resurrection from the dead :preach:
    amen.gif
  10. covenant theology no idea
  11. creatio ex nihilo ;) :amen:
  12. geocentrism ;) (but they used to advocate this in Galileo's time :preach:)
Remember -- if you have to ask for clarification, you fail.

None of them are accepted by mainstream Christianity, so they all get the smiley.
I am pretty sure that the rescuration of jesus christ is accepted by mainstream christianity... Unless you're being sarcastic or something. Come on I know you're smarter than that.

I think the resurrection of the dead refers to Lazarus, not Jesus. Hopefully the latter should go without saying :p

Actually, I meant all the above:

  • Jesus
  • Lazarus
  • Paul
  • widow of Nain's son
  • Jonah
  • et al

That's quite a list of resurrections. You'd think there'd be more documentation if someone rose from the dead...

Indeed, look at Lazarus -- four Gospels and only John thinks to mention that one (not counting Luke including it as just a parable). You'd think resurrection from the dead would've caused a little more brouhaha.
