  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

That's your problem then, as far as I'm concerned.

It's your problem's problem, as far as logic, language, and reality are concerned. I can see that you're not troubled by such things.

You have an ellipse 30 feet in circumference and 10 feet in diameter.

My point is: My OP stands as written.

Stands as written? So why are you now adding the claim that the basin is an ellipse when your OP never said that? I guess it doesn't stand as written after all!

And for the record, whether it is minor or major, does that change the answer?

Yes it does.

So unless you specify, there could be any number of answers.

In any case, if you are now claiming that the basin is an ellipse, your question becomes meaningless, as pi only applies to CIRCLES.

Care to explain how then, in the very next post, Incariol got it spot-on; yet you deemed it necessary to invoke a 'squared circle'?

I suspect your problem is not one of misunderstanding terminology -- (which I also clarified with links) -- but one of a desire to vent some pent-up feeling towards God's people.

I could be wrong though.

By guessing you where using terms incorrectly since that is what you normally do? I could be wrong, however.

Then your OP makes no sense as pi applies to circles only.
Good, I'm glad to hear that.

(For those of you who think the Bible says Pi = 3, you need to read this.)

Ug Pi
right now I'm sick of it :D

Working on a new project, and trying to calculate the angle of probes that are scrubbing onto pads about5 mills, so I have to calculate the offset by the pad, ring radius, ect.
Now it turns out the Ring Pad Data isn't even normalized, and I'me going to have to re code that section so the the calculated pad 1 lines up with the drawn pad 1.

Just stick an O-ring on it, and if it fails, blame administration.

AV, a question for you. I draw an ellipse that from left to right is 5 inches and from top to bottom is 2 inches. What is its diameter?
I don't know.

I'll take a guess and say 5 inches?

Alright. Now I show you another ellipse. This one from left to right is five inches, and from top to bottom is 4 inches. What is the diameter of this second ellipse?
5 inches -- hey, this is easy!

Although I feel I'm contributing to you talking yourself out of understanding 1 Kings 7:23, I get the feeling that's one of the least of your misunderstandings.

You have a wash basin with the following dimensions:

  1. It's circumference is 30.000 feet.
  2. It's diameter is 10.000 feet.
What is Pi?

If I'm not mistaken, there is only one answer to the question which is not dependent on the information previously given in the quote- pi is a number approximately given by 3.1415926535.

If the given information seems impossible, this can be resolved by paying careful attention to the language and noticing that the common or immediate interpretation, that an impossible geometric figure is being described, is not the only one. It's possible to avoid the issue through a different interpretation of the language.

Am I correct here? Is this the point?

edit: woah thread necromancy
