  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

 I never said saying something is wrong is self righteous the motives of some for saing homosexuality is wrong is self-righteous in some. I respect the opinions of others. I also know one thing about Jesus and it's that he represented love and instead of protesting and telling sinners they were wrong he mingled with them and showed them love which made them very interested in his father were as the christians who taught his father word wrong were the ones he didn't seem to like.

Personal Experience : People protesting and telling me I am wrong isn't going to make me any more or less christians.

Saying homosexuality is wrong can never be considered self-righteous because we are taking God's position not are own. As for you saying one must "Love" everyone all the time and be "cautious" not to condemn there immoral behavior I don't think that is right.

Condemning others is sometimes our duty. Loving someone is not saying everything they do is right nor is it ignoring their faults. Loving somebody is being Courageous enough to tell them when they are wrong to show them their faults in hopes that they will improve.

Love is not passively agreeing with what others do all the time. That is Cowardice and irresponsiblity. Jesus mingled with sinners to show them their need for repentence.

Self-Righteousness ( convinced of one's own righteousness-free from guilt or sin - especially in contrast with the actions and beliefs of others ) is a great motive. I was once a christian who talked about he sin's of others because I felt I was better because I was " saved" and I know for a fact self-righteuosness was my motive abd I know for a fact this is true of many others.

I never said Jesus agreed I said he loved. He disagreed with their actions but he knew how to seperate the actions from the individual where as same christians don't. Do you honestly believe that screaming in my face with a bull horn is going to make me repent? It does the opposite it makes me look at christianity as a negative thing that I personally will never again be a part of.

You are suppose to act like Jesus...when did he condemn people?

Yes you were better when you were saved because you were doing things God way and not your own. Self-righteouness has to do with believing not that your better than somebody but that you are better because of your own efforts and not Christ's redempetive Power.

If you believe Jesus is the Son of God and that he came to die for our sins. There is no reason you shouldn't become a Christian.

Saying that speaking against Homosexuality is wrong is self-righteous. Because it comes from a human standard. The Bible condemns homosexuality and as Christians so should we.
First, what 'human standard'? In what world do you live in that 'majority' means 'right' ?

Second, you are called, as a 'christian' to imitate Christ, are you not? When did Jesus condemn sinners, and tell his followers to do the same?

Matthew 22:36-40
36“Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” 37Jesus replied: “ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ 38This is the first and greatest commandment. 39And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

Funny how alot of "christians" seem to uphold some laws by Paul or in Leviticus, but fail to follow the second greatest commandment, as given by their Savior.

How come you don't uphold that one Crusader_4_Christ? I mean, your name says you follow Christ, but you don't follow his second greatest commandment? Sounds kinda fishy to me. (No pun intended. :p)

Well, I don't see any in them.
Because you refuse to even look for them. You have found something that you want to believe in, and refuse to step outside of that 'comfort zone' you have set around yourself to explore other people's religions and faiths. Did you know that you can tell the most about a person, not by what they believe, but by how they live it?

((And I have found alot of people here on this forum lacking in that department. Mainly they are all from one group, but there are some others as well.))

Edit: If you want to continue talking about this, feel free to Private Message me. I'm open to explaining to you the truths in my religion.

If you ever hoped to catch Christians as a majority group guilty of making mistakes, perhaps the best place to find that ratio would be on a forum such as this where 90+% were professing Christians so your observation is not revelation so much as statistical analysis representing the makeup of the forum. And what you've been privileged to witness is that Christians are as lost without Christ as the next man or woman. But fortunately, you've not been called by God to accept fallable "Christians" for your personal salvation, but instead are to accept Christ. Your decision when based on any fallible follower is subject to flawed reasoning by association, therefore it is incumbent upon any person to go directly to the source when seeking the one true God.

You know what I have learned over time about those who find my life style to be nothing but negative and express their dislike in hateful or harsh ways- to just be nice to them. I struggle everyday with how I am going to wake up and be nice to christians but I try my best to do it by respecting and even socializing with them.

It's funny because it scares them away eventually.

I also enjoy going ove and talking to them at homosexual protests. Asking them how they are and why they are protesting.;)

Funny, I do almost the same thing. The only thing different is that I don't go looking for same gender orientation folks... its kinda hard to tell sometimes without the name tags and all. ;)
So I usually try to treat everyone equal and interact on an individual basis. It kinda gives it that Christian 'personal' touch.

Matt as CHristians we should condemn homosexuality. Not necessarly the people who do it but the practice.

Love of neighbor shouldn't trump the Love of God. If a neighbor is doing something wrong and we can say something that might influence his behavior we should.

Besides haven't you heard of "tough love"? Love isn't just about agreeing and being nice.

I meant condemning the behavior not the person.

Loving your neighbor doesn't meaning agreeing with everything they do.

So I should be telling my neighbors that they are following and believing, in my mind, in a lie, and that they should become buddhists or their karma will start to take a turn for the worse?

Thats not love. Thats borderline abuse/harrassment.

You don't have to accept me, but don't try to condemn me for how I live. Who are we to judge one another, when we are both human? ^.^

So far, I've seen one doing a lot of condemning in this thread... and I'll give you three guesses as to whom is at the top of that heap.
I wonder what karma this will return?
For someone that is so expressive in being so 'against' a group, it only leads me to believe that you are really convicted of something that you are driven to attack it without provoke. Some things to meditate upon. :holy:

Hehe, I'm just going to assume you're referring to me.

And to that, I ask, how have I been condemning? I fully accept the fact that you believe and see things the way you do. Heck, I love it actually. Differences like this make us human, and not robots. As for me being 'against' a group, I really am not. What I'm against is people trying to live other's lives for them.

And I never needlessly attack, and never without being 'provoked' first. But ah well, its all the same, since once we're done here, We'll both go on to something else and move on. Gotta love internet forums huh? ^.^

Thanks but no thanks. I have studied the worlds religions enough. I don't need any more of that. I will spend my time learning more of Jesus. If I lived to be a thousand I would not have scratched the surface so I will stick there. Regardless if there are points that can be shown that are good about a religion, if it is a false religion worshiping a false god then the end result is hell. I see nothing good or true in that.

I'm just sorta jumping in here... but I agree about the boorishness that comes with some of these posts. I see a lot of disrespect. And you know, just because someone doesn't believe the same thing as you, or is different than you doesn't mean you're any better than them, or any more permitted to be a jerk. I'm freakin Atheist and I don't rag on religious beliefs because I don't believe in them myself. I, yes, Respect them... all of them. I read a lot of these posts about some beliefs and if I think they're silly, or so completely out there... would you want me to say something like "These people are the decay of todays society, just look how they're screwing everything up! I believe that you aren't supposed to be this way and you suck and all these people like this are ruining the morals in life. It's sickening!" If that's how you want me to respond to your beliefs, I will. Just say the word. I also, hate seeing people talk about other religions and beliefs, and don't capitalize them as if they're not proper noun. That really t's me off big time. But since I'm an atheist I'm not allowed to post my opinions on some of this stuff.

Whatever... I just went off on a huge tangent, oh well. Yea just ignore me.

Don't play the persecution card. You could not comment on the things you were because you were posting in a Theist only area. Dems the rules. I personally am glad there are areas where only believers can go since there are times I do not feel like having to sift through the atheist stuff. Hey, if you want to bag on my faith, feel free. I am just fine with that. It changes nothing. Just don't close your mind off too much. At fifteen, you have a lot of learning to do. I see your state as common teenage rebellion. That's okay. God has plenty of time.

I am no common teenage rebell. This I gaurantee you. I'm not playing any persecution card... if that's what I implied, I apologize. I realize I'm a selfish, hypocritical buttwipe so don't shove it in my face, I get that enough from my parents, teachers and peers. I get it now, okay. I can't post in theist only areas, alright I'm sorry I made the mistake of not noticing that it WAS theist only! My mistake! And I don't want to bag on your faith, because I have no problems with your faith to a major extent. And if I did, I wouldn't post them anyway because I see that as common decency. I just have problems when others make comments without regard to how others might feel. Even the smallest little comment about the smallest little thing about someone can drive them to something drastic. And I'll point out again, I'm not a "common teenage rebel." I bet I fit the stereotype pretty well though, huh? Atheistic, completely non-religious, argumentative, a little creep... but no, there's nothing more I need to learn before my life ends. Hopefully, time will pass quickly until my fate catches up with me.
