My Make a Story 3

"Hmm... Alex" Kyuui spoke to the alpha male "Could I trouble you with hunting. Nothing big. A rabbit would do."
Alex seemed greatly insulted to be asked to hunt for a pup. Him! The ALPHA male. That meant that he had rights on the food others hunted. "Ugh! Fine, be that way, I'll just hunt something myself, you big royal pain."
And so she set out once again for food. She came back a while later with two rabbits in hand. She hadn't bothered to skin them, since wolves usually at raw food all the time. "There. Now I had better not hear any more complaining from you, Sen. Otherwise, you'd give our trouble-making friend here the vibe of being a spoiled princess."

 

[Mankin]

Shinji ate some of the various fruits and plants Kyuui had picked out.

"Thanks for gathering these. And yes I shall pay you for the trouble I've caused." He laughed at Sen's complaints. "A wolf has to have her meat eh?"

He turned to Kyuui. "They'll likely give up their search by the morning. These type of men don't possess the best of work ethics. We'll sleep here for now."

Sen Squealed With Joy, at seeing the two juicy Rabbits. Her mouth watering, She Thanked Kyuui for the meal, And Scarfed down some of the the Fresh Kill.
"Spoiled?! .... I'm sorry.." Sen patted around with a leaf, "I'll try to be better!"

 

[searchingsoul]

"You might be able to sleep though this, Shinji, but I cannot! Especially if I know I might be killed in my sleep! How about, instead, I take the first watch. That way Mr. Lax can catch some much needed beauty rest. Plus I can keep the fire going so that we don't freeze during the night. Though it may be better not to have a fire under the circumstances." Kyuui said. She sat down, wrapped in a blanket, and placed her dagger right next to her.

At finishing her meal, Sen Crawled up by Kyuui And dozed off into a deep sleep.

 

[Mankin]

"Can't the wolves sense if any intruders are nearby? After all, they have a much better sense of smell than we do. But I suppose if they were asleep, they wouldn't be of much use. Hmm." Shinji scratched his chin.

"Well fine then, you can take the first watch. Just wake me up when you need some sleep." Shinji put his feet up and slowly drifted off to sleep.

However, his dreams were not so kind.

A child was standing before him. Yet everything around the child was being consumed with flames. The boy just stood there, oblivious to the fire around him. Shinji reached out to him, desperately trying to reach him. But everytime he stretched his hand out, the distance only increased.
"Come on, come to me! I'll save you!" Shinji shouted.

The child grinned wickedly, "Why do that? You already burned down my home. Are you trying to atone for the blood you have shed? Pathetic. You're nothing more than a wolf disguised in sheep's clothing."

"No you're a liar!" Shinji shouted.

"Die, die, die, you should just die."

Shinji started to moan in his sleep, then that moan quickly turned into screams of agony.

"Wolves are light sleepers and often wake up during the night." Kyuui stated. She was thankful, though, that he had agreed that she take the watch anyway. Otherwise, she'd be having bad dreams, just like Shinji looked to be having now. Kyuui debated on whether or not to wake him up, and settled on sparing him. She crawled over to where he slept and pinched him hard on the arm.

 

[Mankin]

Shinji gasped as he sensed something applying a pressure to his arm. His arm moved out to grasp the object that had touched him. He looked up to see Kyuui.

He let go of her arm. "Sorry," he mumbled before rising to his knees. He sniffed and wiped his eyes. Resting his hands on his knees, he remained completely silent.

"I don't blame you. it looked like you were having one heck of a nightmare." Kyuui said. His reaction wasn't nearly as fun as she had hoped.

"Do you see now why I wanted to stay up?"

 

[Mankin]

"Yeah I guess you're right. These type of nights tend to breed nightmares. Memories are terrible things. You try to forget them, but they'll always come back to haunt you in your dreams."

Shinji ran his fingers over his head. Since his hair was underneath the bandages, his fingers simply passed over the fabric like it was hair.

"Anything you want to talk about?" Kyuui asked, her maternal side taking over, concern blossoming. "I'd understand if you didn't, but it might help to talk about it. Secrets tend to be like a shaken pop can or wine bottle. The more its shaken, the bigger the pressure that is pushed outward."

 

[Mankin]

Shinji looked at Kyuui. He could see genuine concern in her eyes. He sighed. "I guess it couldn't hurt."

"You're probably wondering why I wear these bandages. Well there was once a man named Kensuke Frederick. He was the leader of a band of mercenaries I used to serve under. He was the most blood thirsty man I have ever met. He truly enjoyed slaying whatever came his way. One day, a sickness overcame him. But before he died, he needed to choose a sucessor. Due to my skill with a blade, I was chosen. However, the ceremony for sucession was truly frightening. I was pinned down and a blade was used to carve these tatoos into my face. I don't know how they did it, but once Kensuke died, his soul lived on in me. He took over completely and with my hands, he did unspeakable things. I'm a murderer Kyuui." His voice started to crack. Shinji gasped for breath. "The only way I can hold him in is to cover my face with these bandages. But underneath it all, I'm a monster. It's like they somehow carved the instincts of a vicious beast into me. I even once...strangled...a a child."

He put his head between his legs in agony.

"You see now why I don't deserve any sympathy or comfort. This is why I wander around from place to place, looking for some way to give back to the world what I took away from it. I can't even kill myself for the monster won't let me. I'm trapped inside this miserable existence until my body decays."

Sen Awoke To feel Kyuui moving over to Shinja. she opened her eyes and looked over to where they were sitting.. They were talking.. Sen strained her ears to listen to their conversation. When Shinja finished Sen closed her eyes and Drifted into Sleep once more, Unable to stay awake even though she wanted too..

Furious, Kyuui slapped him, and stood up. "Ha! A pity party, I see. Well get over it! I'll tell you this: YOU don't choose to do those things. That makes you innocent to the crimes, in my eyes... And makes what's-his-face responsible. Do you understand? I'm appalled that you thought to end your life. That's despicable! If you did that, you'd only be running away. Like a coward. And cowards are selfish, thinking only of themselves. If you want to repent, and I mean truly repent, then live. Live for the ones who can't. You can do far more good alive. And if you ever think of suicide, so help me, I'll do it for you!"

 

[Mankin]

Ooc: This discussion is reminding me of Evangelion.

BiC: Shinji rubbed his cheek. "What's so cowardly about just giving up? No one would miss me if I disappeared. In fact, I'd be doing a favor to the people I killed."

He turned his head to the side like a cat. "Good, because I wasn't expecting pity. I hate pity parties." He ripped off a small section of his bandages and let it fall to the ground, revealing half of his face. His fingers touched the skin lightly. "Heh, it still stings after all these years," he whispered to himself.

Talking to him was impossible, but she tried again. "Death would not better! Death is running away from your problem! Even if you died, do you think what's-his-name would die with you?! If he was such a terror while living, do you think he would just disappear? I don't think so! I believe he would look for another host and use him to kill even more people! At least you know how to keep him in check. The next person might not be so lucky!"

 

[Mankin]

He nodded, "You do have a point. That's why I've been searching of a way to purge him forever. I've been tracking the various mercenary groups, looking for the doctor who performed the ritual, if he still alive."

He grinned slightly at Kyuui, "I've come to terms with my own existence for the time being. I get what joy I can out of life but it is extremely fleeting like a moment of warmth in the cold winter." He reached out with his hand as if to touch Kyuui's hair but then he retracted his hand at the last moment. A sigh escaped from his mouth.

Kyuui looked away, blushing profusely. That movement was so unexpected, it had caught her off guard. "Well, that's good to hear. I don't like to hear any sort of talk of suicide. It disturbs me."

 

[Mankin]

Shinji nodded. "I understand. It isn't something to be talked about in regular conversation. Hmm, I just saw you blush. Sorry."

He yawned deeply. "Do you have a family Kyuui?" he inquired.

Kyuui only blushed deeper. "I have a sister, an older brother, a father who likes to think he's still in his 20's and a mom who's a health nut." Kyuui said. "What about you? What about your family?"
