• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

everybody thinks i'm smart. i know the truth that i'm not very smart though. i've always made good grades in school and i'm even making good grades in college. the problem is that i make good grades and i don't even do anything for real but i guess i just get lucky. see this is a problem cuz as long as i get good grades for doing less work, that's the less i will actually learn or even try to learn. by the time i graduate, i won't know very much. i know this won't be good for my career though or my future. what are some ways i can force or motivate myself to learn more?

What you have I do not define as a lack of intelligence. I also got good grades throughout school and felt stupid, judt knew how to take tests, etc. If you are getting the answers you do know something, is what you are describing more of just wanting to learn more and even to learn how to use the info you already know. In my profession you could only remeber so much an dneeded to know where to go an dhow to look up what you needed whenever needing more. I have a hard time believing you really just by luck get the right answer so often.

Hello, Karikta. "Smartness" is not based on knowledge alone. Being smart is based on a combination of knowledge and wisdom. So, pray to God and ask him for wisdom. It is in scripture that those who ask for it will be given it.

Some people are gifted with the ability to produce good grades from little work, but it is the knowledge that counts. I think you should put more effort in your studies if you think you need to "learn"more. It could be that you are naturally picking up the knowledge at a fast pace and that is why you are getting good grades too.

Judging by the way you write, I can tell you're intelligent. You may be in the same boat with me: cot being challenged by classes because you are actually smarter than you and the everyone else thinks.

Its been eleven years since I graduated h/s and I'm just now realizing why I slept in class, intentionally got kicked or played around and got straight A's. Being bored and frustrated with school and other students guessing outrageously wrong answers, even though the text book was stapled to their face, I decided not to go into debt attending college, fearing the same thing would happen.

The only thing/instance I have ever felt the need to study is dealing with the Bible.

If this sounds remotley familiar to you, I suggest three things:
1. go above and beyond the required or expected in class. After grad-ing, get yourself a job that requires you to think or keeps you busy.
2. take a towel or something to class so you dont get the print from the books on your face while you sleep. (I'm kidding but I mean it.)
2. hunker down and wait for it to be over. Once you get into the working world, with 'professionals', you'll see how intelliegent you truly are.
3. pray. Ask God to help you. Whether you pray for greater intelligence, wisdom to use the intelligence you already have or patience to endure whatever comes along.

What you lack is challenge , this is a BIG VIPER under the grass, as you say this will come to bite you. You'll go easy and then when things become harder as time progresses you'll become lazy and won't be able to cope with the stuff that is thrown at you.

More importantly do you want to go a level higher or
Is there any way you could go a level higher? Just higher your standards, and intellectual challenge yourself to such an extend that you really have to work hard to get things done.

I think it also makes you dead unhappy, remember.

Nothing in the universe can make you happy exept love and helping other people.

God doesn't care how good your grades are, whats most important is your loving intereaction with other people. Any small act of love is what really counts in life and for God.

Read this NDE to see what i mean. http://www.near-death.com/rosenblit.html and tell me what you think of it.

ok my grade on a midterm i took this week is an example of what i'm talking about. i received a 92 on the midterm. this has to be luck when you consider that not only have i only attended the class about 5 times this semester but also that i don't have a book for the course and i didn't study for it. then the test was a subjective test where we had to write essays and short answers. after i took it i just knew i had failed but ended up getting an A, shockingly. now this particular class will more than likely not be one i will need in a career i decide to choose but when things like this happen it affects all of my other classes.

i'll try to take yalls advice but its going to be hard for me. my goals have always been to get good grades in school when they should prolly be to learn in school.

I have always had the same problem. I began in high school readin my Bible through school time. Than I would be reading it 8 hours after. No glory to me, all glory to God who gave me grace to accomplish such a feet.

But I found that in studying the Bible, and keeping an open ear, knowledge was attained very simply. Remember all you need for life and godliness is in one book, that is the Bible. Keep faith toward God, and when you actually need to cram for that 1 hour before class because you have a final, God may show you compassion, and you retain what you study.

At any rate, I'm not telling anyone to do anything. But I'm just saying how things have always worked for me.

The beginning of knowledge and wisdom is to fear God. And the fear of the Lord is to hate evil. Because pride, and arrogance, and the evil way, and the perverse mouth the Lord does hate.

If you have the fear of the Lord as to abstain for that which you know doesn't please Him, then truly you have no lack of knowledge. Cause He is what makes the earth go round, and there is nothing better than being hooked up with the creator of the universe.

:sigh: please don't keep God imprisoned in a bible book, God and life have so much more to offer then just a bible. There's FAR more outside there to learn from God then just the bible, remember God is a god of the living that still brings us new gifts even today, when Jesus returns who knows what new knowledge he will bring?
