  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

How does hugging a tree help it at all and how does this save rainforests?

It doesn't help the tree, it helps you.

It helps you to develop a deeper mindset that trees are living entities too.

And by doing that, you just may want to go out and plant trees, so you can have your own "tree family."

Here's a suggestion:

Plant ten trees (or shrubs) on your own property, and give them names.

Then go talk to them daily about they doing their part to close the ozone layer and stop this global warming crisis we're about to experience.

What could go wrong?

I’m renting and my yard is tiny so I doubt my landlord would allow them to grow.

Hugging trees has a way of internally making a person feel more connected to them. The result is more of an openness to do things differently for their benefit which has an interesting way of circling around to everyone's benefit that even reach to the rain forest. We don't have to go all the way to South America to save rain forest. Here in the Northwest for example we do have rain forest that are disappearing by logging.

Im more of a tree sniffer. Our pine trees here smell like vanilla.

Oh, I remember the smell of pine cones that came from behind our house before the council had them and the old lot they were in to make way for a housing estate.

Yup.

Trees have been abused over the decades.

And it's time we apologized to them, don't you think?

Get out there and hug and plant, hug and plant, hug and plant.

And as the OP stipulates, 'even in the street.'

You really don't get what a challenge is, do you?

Yup.

Trees have been abused over the decades.

And it's time we apologized to them, don't you think?

... Not at all. Trees are non-sentient things. I'll as soon apologize to a tree as I'll get an opinion from a stone about war.
