Hold up both of your hands in front of you.

See those 10 digits? Start counting backwards with either hand.

10, 9, 8, 7, 6 + the 5 on your other hand = 6 + 5 = 11.

Easy --- :)
This reminds me of Penn and Teller's BS (Showtime) show, Season 4 , episode 9 ("Numbers")
And just like their cockroach counting, the above is complete Male Bovine Feces (as Phil pretty much admitted, although not in such words)

Don't worry, the answer is 10. I was making a point about how certain members ask questions, and then create rules about these questions that actually eliminate the correct answer.

Oh, and it works because you're working with the pre-determined numbers 10 and 5. Counting down from 10, you'll be at 6 when you run out of fingers on that hand, even though you've only counted 5 off. Adding 5 to 6 ends you up with the number 11. It's a sleight-of-hand trick ;)

Thanks ... I thought I was going mad for a few minutes! Trick questions are good fun...but not so much when one's not absolutely sure if it's a trick question!

Please answer this question with discrete numbers -- and please don't say ten.

How many fingers (thumbs included) does the average human have?

The question really should read:

"Please answer this question with discrete numbers -- and please don't say ten.

In light of a literal interpretation of Genesis, how many fingers (thumbs included) does the average human have?"

That's ten. *sigh* i guess asking you not to say ten is too much for you to grasp. Why do I even bother?
That's eleven.

Are we gonna go through this again?

Both of them are holding up 11 fingers, and I can prove it.

Your challenge has been effectively met.

That's why I said discrete numbers. 10.02 is continuous.
Nooo! 10.02 is perfectly discrete on a discrete scale of intervals of 0.01.

I reckon 9 point something if you are talking about the aggregate of a population. There are likely to be more amputees that persons with genetic dispositions giving them extra fingers etc. Averaged out this makes the figure somewhere between 9 & 10.

This thread is so funny ^_^

Here is a story told to me by a friend's father, he is a farmer here.
It deals with the fundamental mysteries of reality and illusion.

One day, while peacefully crawling in the grass, a bug was eaten by a cow.

It was warm and dark inside the cow, so, the bug went to sleep.

When the bug woke up it was still warm and dark, but the cow was gone.

:D Ha ha ha .... I tell you what, when one does get into philosophical things (not that I've studied it much as such, but I have thunk deeply, and have read a bit of philosophy), onr's mind tends to go spiralling down deep into a big black hole, and one finds oneself gaspng for air...not to mention sanity.
Actually, we could start a thread on perceptions of reality...if everyone joined in, I expect CF would implode on itself, and disappear into its own black hole! ;)
