Im a compulsive overeater and over 300lbs. Alot of it is due to trying to deal with the loss of my son. But im sick of letting food control me. Where do i begin?

The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.
If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.
If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

See a doctor - that's a huge part of getting better. You need to see someone who can give you advice and help you out by putting you on an eating plan. You also need to see somebody like a counsellor or therapist who can help you talk through these problems and work them out, or at least learn how to control them.
It's no good fixing the symptoms - you must fix the cause.

I think you just began because you admitted you have a problem. Get help for it professionally and find others who are dealing with overeating, so you can develop a support network. Eating disorders can be fought through support and treatment - just reach out or start looking for the support you know you need.Robwen said:
