  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

This one's a toughy, so if it isn't answered by the tenth post, I'll drop a strong hint.

What would creatio ex nihilo do to the universe as a whole that creatio ex materia would not?

As both are metaphysics and therefore not scientific the skys the limit. Anything you can argue for, neither is constrained by physics, rationality or anything else that can be discussed in a meaningful way.

In other words, its a pointless question without scientific, philisophical or theological value.

I would strongly recommend reading some philosophy, basic theology and basic science.

Reduce the human race to ignorance, superstition, anxiety, neurosis, and fear.

Cause there to be more total stuff than previously.
Very good!

Yes, creatio ex nihilo would raise the total amount of mass/energy in the universe.

Creatio ex materia would not.

God rested (ceased) from creatio ex nihilo on the Seventh Day, implementing what we call the First Law of Thermodynamics.

Good job! :)

In fact, chapter 1 is rather explicit on all days except 1 and 4 that God is using what is already there.
God created both ex nihilo (the earth) and ex materia (trees) during the creation week.
